Porter C-Series - will it happen?

I realise the C-Series hasn't even flown yet. But assuming that happens and deliveries occur to the first customers in due course, what do people think about the likelihood of the nexessary runway extension at Toronto City? What are the odds? I doubt Porter would continue with the order with no extension (order is contingent I believe).

So, will it happen? Thoughts? What is the timeline for the runway extension decision at the city council level? This year?

Porter will be sold as soon as the high tech geek in the background works it out that bank rolling an aviation company { no matter how much you love airplanes} just has its limits, and you wont see a longer runway in CYTZ.Also I will have to fly my prop aircraft into City Center as the anti -jet lobby wont let me land our jet there. Any other questions?

HI clunckdriver when you say

The anti -jet lobby wont let me land our jet there. I assume it's for the noise? What if the Cseries make less noise the a metroliner ? See, the time are changing even in Heathrow the carefiew timings will change for the A380 and future generation lo noise Aircraft .

gru84u, you are talking logic and common sense, however thats not what determines the decisions around CYTZ, in fact the jet we would like to fly into the place has a much lower PNDB footprint than our old piston beater, but thats OK in the eyes of the waterfrount "NIMBYS", logic doesnt enter into the debate Im afraid!

please don't put all us waterfront residents in the NIMBY category.

I love the city airport , I live where I do so I can watch the planes come and go, quite frankly watching the airport is better entertainment than the TV. I would support anything that would sustain the airport but .......

the effect of expansion of commercial operations on the GA population concerns me. already it is very easy for us little guys to spend silly amounts of time on the ground because we can't squeeze in between the Dashes.

If you think I'm exaggerating a have videos of me spending 10 minutes at the hold short linbe , trying to take off and 15 minutes orbiting downtown trying to get a landing spot!

I would be surprised if Porter made the C-Series order but thought the runway extension was unlikely. Why do that? Wouldn't it be smart to get preliminary approval before securing the orders?

So, my question is: given the time to do the mandatory environment impact studies and then build the runway extensions, how soon would a yes/no vote need to take place considering the potential aircraft delivery date? Does the yes/no vote need to take place in the next 5 months?

Porter, YTZ and CSeries

I think the YTZ decision is 50/50 right now. City administration wants to happen, aldermen are split. Feds probably want it, don't know about the Port Authority. Lots of NIMBYs adamantly opposed, but once they see how quiet CSeries is, some might change their mind.

As for the CSeries itself, I am confident orders will start coming in once some definitive fuel burn data are available. The "big one" will be if AC decide to order and split the narrow body order. I am told (by a 763 captain) currently it's the 738 as interim, then the 738MAX and some 739MAX as the long term choice. A big advantage for the MAX is the cockpit layout, information architecture, and display symbology is identical to the 77L/W and 788/9. Will make transitioning pilots much easier and cheaper. But the 738 is way too much aircraft for a lot of routes, so CS100/300 might be the choice. BBD I think would take the E190s of AC's hands to clinch the deal.

CSeries was granted an "approved for test flying" cert from Transport Canada last Saturday, so high speed taxiing should be underway this week.
