Canada Day
Happy Canada day folks! My day started early this AM sitting on the back patio looking out across the farm and reminiscing about the various places I have spent this day, and its predecessor, Dominium Day, this got me thinking about all of you who have followed and are away from this great land and your loved ones on this day, some by choice to make a living, and some on duty representing Canada in some of the less pleasant parts of the globe, where civil rights and freedoms are in short supply. Ah yes, there are those who will scoff at such sentiments, to those I sugest a visit to one of the many sites where Canadians lie forever in foreign soil, whether you are in the "Sandbox" or one of the booming economies such as Hong Kong, or any of the many ex pat pilot bases its not hard to find these tended plots with their small white markers, which although far from home, are forever part of Canada, so whilst enjoying this proud day, spare a thought for those who lie in these plots, and lets not get into pointless disussions about the rights and wrongs which brought them to these places, they did what they belived to be right at the time, to second gues them after all these years is to defile their memory. Tonight we go to the park with the grandkids to watch the fireworks, I for one will say a silent thanks to "those who went before", Regards, Clunckdriver.

Dear Clunk...
As one of those who live away and who left family and friends on home soil, I thank you for your thoughts! To those who fought and were left behind, and those who were scarred forever in the fight to ensure our freedoms were held intact, and to those who still hold my Country in their hearts, we all say thank you. I won't be in Canada this day, and I won't be in the country I live in with my family. This day will not be marked with any fanfare where I currently sit, nor will the country I work in now acknowledge it. The Canadians who do work abroad, whether by choice or circumstance, are a proud bunch who will celebrate in the best way! Canuck beer (if they can get it or are "allowed" to) a barbecue with all the stuff they like, and they'll talk a little hockey! I wear my Maple Leaf on my sleeve and thank my lucky stars I AM CANADIAN!
Be safe...(aw jeez eh...? Now I'm all choked up...)

Good Evening Clunkdriver
As always well said
If I get out of context my apologies in advance as I was doing volunteer work today on Canada Day and Crown Royal now interferes...
I have walked the beach at Courcelles Sur Mer aka Juno Beach which I got off when I felt very uncomfortable walking on the sands where so many Canadians died so long ago, I visited the grave yard at Rheinburg in Germany where my maternal uncle lies with 3300 other airman are buried, I have walked the Bridge over the River Kwai in Thailand where 1 railroad tie represented the death of 1 P.O.W., I have walked through the grounds of Dachau and have felt the pain of all those who have been tortured so long ago and Yad Vashim in Jerusalem well that is a story in itself...
To all those who are not on our soil I say a very profound thank you for being free today!
