Danger

Heard on the grapevine today that crews are now going to be balloted for strike action glad i am not going on holiday over xmas with flybe.

As cc with Flybe I for one hope that this is not the case. We are all working very hard to give our pax an excellent service (which is all I have seen to date) and I for one do not have any issues with Flybe or any of the cc I work with (either old school JEA or x-bacon).
I can only speak for myself but I am VERY proud to work for Flybe and hope that all of my colleagues continue to support the team @ Flybe and continue our hard work in making the recently merged crews the continued success that we are currently.
Talk of strike action is upsetting to say the least...... If there is any truth in this please please do not let this happen!

surely this is not new news to you!

You may well be proud to work for flybe - that is commendable but I think part of what this 'fight' may be about is for flybe to acknowledge and reward that loyalty instead of treating its crew and pax with such apathy and disregard.

dolly - what are you 'fighting' for?
How do you think Flybe should reward the loyalty of crew?
How have Flybe disregarded the crew or their passengers?

I cannot help but feel that strike action is not the answer here, unless there is some desire to cause damage to the company, which will not achieve the means to the end...surely!!

Unions!!

Yes I have been sent the ballot letter!- and NO i wont be voting yes,
i for one cant afford to loose £70 for a days loss of earnings just for the unions ego! Unions are great when they work for the employees and their best interests. Unions are bad when they are run by inexperienced
reps out on a personal mission. Will all your sheep follow EF?

I presume you have personal issues with EF - whoever they may be. Personally, no I am not a sheep and I hope it doesn't come to a strike but I and the majority of my colleagues are not prepared to put up with the constant disruption to our lives and the insulting manner in which many have been treated.
I enjoy my job between take off and landing, what I do not enjoy is not knowing what time I will finish work, tech and op issues aside, having to print out a new roster every time I check in because that has changed, listening to crewing's excuses as to why I'm not due a disruption payment when my duty has been extended by 10 hours of my original finish time etc etc etc....
Those are some of the things which need to be changed, I doubt there is anyone who can afford the loss of earnings which a strike would entail but perhaps they are looking at the bigger picture!!!
Barbie, I take it you won't be taking advantage of any improved t's&c's which may come about as a result of the unions actions.
Jobsagoodun, I have no desire to damage the company and I think the way Flybe have disregarded crew and passengers is well documented on this and other forums and if you work for them, unless you spend your working day in ear defenders, you must have overheard many unhappy people making their feelings known.
And before someone else 'has a go' I don't mean the everyday moans that every job in the world gives rise to I am talking about the issues which cause hard working, experienced, professional crew to become so unhappy and tearful that they leave.

come on barbiejetset,be fair on EF - said person did get us a good agreement which flybe then suddenly decided to dishonour for whatever reason.
there were however some signs up in the crew room the other night saying
"99% of flybe crews will not cover extra sectors during the strike action"
strike day will be fun then!

Its not about being a sheep and following.
Being a member of a union is about solidarity , unity and getting improvments on T&C's in the workplace.
Voting yes doesnt automatically mean there will be a strike it does however give the union reps a mandate to go back to flybe management and show the strength of the membership feelings and the lengths they are prepared to go to, ie having to loose pay (which no one can afford the wages are currently so poor) in the short-term to win longer term improvements.

Best Of Luck.

As I left Fybe a while ago for pastures new, I just wanted to wish you all , either ex BACON or Flybe past colleagues the very best of luck as you move forward in this difficult time for the crew community. I left because of some of the things you guys talk about in this forum, lack of respect from management, published rosters not being worth the paper they are printed on, poor service to our cistomers on the ground etc., etc.

All I will say is that if you want to work for a company that offers you a stable life and recognises what you contribute to the business you either have to leave as I did, perhaps some would say the easier option, or stay and FIGHT to get what you should have as a matter of course. The latter is the more difficult option of course, but to be commended if you really want change.

I speak as one who in my BA/Bacon days stood on picket lines and took company flack and propoganda, and in the majority of cases got what we were after; after all, the loss of a day or twos revenue can work wonders in making a company realise they need to resolve issues. In many cases the lost revenue is far greater than the cost of fixing the problem, but the bean counters don't have that on their spreadsheets, so need a nudge to understand.

If your grievances are logical, fair, and can be quantified by the union and will impact on the customer in a positive way when resolved, (happy cabin crew means happy customers), then you stand a good chance of getting resolution and improvement. DON'T tie it into money, be sure of exactly what your reps are asking for on your behalf, and if the above is clear, vote to take industrial action. HOWEVER if you are not sure exactly what you will be striking for, MAKE SURE YOU GET A PROPER EXPLANATION IN WRITING FROM YOUR REPS, BEFORE YOU VOTE.

Too many actions fail because the crew don't actually know what the issues are, so don't listen to crew room gossip, talk face to face with your reps or attend union meetings to get clarity.

Once you are clear what the issues are, then you can make a decision.

Remember if you are happy with your terms and conditions and don't think they need to change, don't go on strike. BUT if you are as pissed off a so many seem to be, the only way you can influence change is to take action. The company will push out masses of stats and propoganda saying things are not so bad, we are working hard to improve your lot etc. In my experience these promises always lead to little or no changes. so be aware.

Flybe crew are a great bunch of people, if only your management were as dedicated to you and your customers, it would be a great place to work. The solution is up to you!
