The Pay

Without getting into the technicalities, can someone advise what the average take home pay after tax is for BMI crew? Nothing to do with me as at BA now, but still have many friends at Bmed who would like to know. Presuming that eventually, Bmed crew, may have to move onto the BMI contract? I know quite a few BMI crew left there to come to Bmed as they felt the pay was better at Bmed.

On the sale, and those glad to see the back of BA, somehow, I don't think BA will exactly be crying over the lost partnership and nor do I think they have any desire to compete on the Bmed route network. Personally, I prefer to be flying to destinations that can actually be found in the atlas!

Good luck though to the crew at Bmed. Hope it all works out for you. Wonderful crew.

Well, it depends how good you are at geography, doesn't it...
I have no trouble finding the BMed destinations in the atlas, believe me...
And every place on Earth has some beauty - whether you can see it or not is another matter!
But thanks for wishing us Good Luck!
I am keeping positive - until I have a reason to be negative, that is!
Then will just have to deal with it!

Golly gosh, you definitely qualify as being one of the best geographers in the industry then!
Shame to see BMED and its exotic destinations go (as I'm sure some will...)

Well a good few of the current Cmed destinations are operated on BA's Slots and Rights so I imagine a fewof those may come back to BA and be operated by converting a few more 767's to longhaul!

paddy I am afraid you are totally incorrect, all slots and all routes were 100% BMED owned. they are now owned by bmi. admittedly a few of the destinations were served originally by BA but the rights to them transferred to BMED under the conditions of the franchise agreement.

On another thread someone suggested Bmed had all the route licences but I find it difficult to believe that BA didn't retain the rights to their old routes eg Amman,Beirut,Teheran and Baku.
Does anyone know for sure?

Not really, Smell the Coffee.
It's called general knowledge.
And some of us have it.
That's what comes from a good education and taking interest in all sorts of things in life. And there are many people like that in Bmed!

Hi JDE...I wouldnt be so sure of that now to be honest. BA are not in the habit of "handing over" slots (whatever about route rights) to their franchise partners without a clause to get them back should situations such as a buy out by a competitor take place. They are just far too valuable for that.
Also, as for the rights. You will find that many of these are granted by the relevant governments based on the clout of having a service operated by the likes of BA. Now BA can allow a franchise to operate the route on their behalf but the agreement with the governments you will find will be specifically endorsed to BA so it is up to the individual regulators to decide if they are happy to have that changed to Bmed or BMI as this case may be.
Suppose we will know more in a few months, no point speculating now. Especially when too much emotion seems to be preventing rational thought on the subject!

The word that came from the top last week is that BMED own all the slots and all the rights to the routes, so BA won't be able to operate them.

For example there are rights to 7 return flights a week between the UK and Baku, and BMED uses all of these, so BA could not operate even if it wanted to with out the agreement between the Governments changing.

BMED would not have gained any slots when BA handed over the route rights, BA will have used these slots for other routes. There was some clause or something that meant BA had a say on what happened if BMED was sold, but they let the sale to BMI go through with no problem. So there is no way they are getting the routes back in the short term.

Am I missing something here? and this is not aimed at any person contributing to this thread, but as far as I understand it BMI have bought out Bmed ,it will carry on as bmed until October when the entire company will become Bmi slots, destinations, crew and well....just everything

we just keep going around in circles

Despite what anyones opinion is on here, we should all be thankfull that Bmed crew have retained their jobs. I for one will welcome their experience and knowledge when it comes to working the New routes for bmi.

Cant wait to meet you guys and gals

La Diva, I know where you're coming from (got a degree in Geography) and it's great to hear (or read) peeps like you with that kind of attitude...I also applied to BMED in the past but didn't go to interview as I'd bagged the BA job first...sometimes I regret not having gone to BMED first but hey, that's life.
My comment was really a play on the fact that MANY crew don't have any interests past where the nearest Zara is....as most don't really know anything about our franchises let alone where they fly......sad, but true.
Anyways, good luck to peeps at both airlines....

I would love to be with you and say what a relief it is nobody has lost their job, problem is i cant.
BMED certainly "do not" own all the slots thats a fact.
BMI - what do they want with BMED?, its been suggested they just want the Airbuses and not BMED at all, if that keeps everybody employeed then so be it.
I hope it becomes clearer soon, i have been where they are now in the twilight zone and its no fun.
You all have my hopes for the future be you BMED cabin crew, pilots or engineers.

Wrong, Smell the coffee, wrong!
I've got Masters, for sure, but nothing to do with Geography...

MANY crew don't have any interests past where the nearest Zara is....
True, absolutely.
And my point was - we are NOT all like that!
But people, who only look for the nearest Zara don't last very long in BMed - after all, there is no Zara in Bishkek or Tehran!
Or at least I think there isn't any - see, I wouldn't know about that, cos I am not one of those people!
But everyone has their own priorities and we are all different. And I respect that.

Bmed/bmi

Have been a few years with BMed now and although I can see some positive aspects in becoming part of a bigger group, the BMed dimension and atmosphere will be greatly missed. A great bunch of people indeed.

Hopefully we will soon find out what the terms and conditions will be when october comes......

Does anyone know anything about contracts, salaries, staff travel seniority, ranks?
Will BMI make us all redundant and then offer a BMI contract? A considerable drop of money for most of us, I suppose.

Just dreading the possibility of ending up doing 4 sectors a day! As for the uniform..... there's no way out!

bah.......

Perhaps it might be worth hearing from crew who have moved from Bmed to BMI or vice versa to find out from their experience who has the best terms and conditions and what they would like to see come from Bmed!
