How about this for a little more information:
In 2 months time there are likely to be 80 plus ex-BAR cabin crew on extended 'gardening leave'. That's without a strike!!
At an average of, shall we say £2000 each per month, or £160,000 total, for non-productive crew, (around £2 million per year!) that doesn't seem like a particularly good start for an airline attempting to match it's 'lo-co' rivals!
Never mind eating into the £30 mill loss made last year.
Things ain't looking too rosy at the moment guys.

Come on TR they are not "non-productive" just not as productive as they should be......oh you mean on gardening leave..
If they do cost 2 grand a month then its no wonder BACX hasnt made money if they are lumbered with costs like those.....never mind the secondees but thats another rant......
but, but they were our routes I hear you say......nope, they were routes formerly operated by BAR on behalf of BA plc, now operated by BACX on behalf of BA plc.....and yes BACX has lost a load of money , and I think if you look deep down inside you will know the reason why.....and 2 grand a month hosties is a good place to start..

TR......£2000 a month average, CX have a diverse route network but to my knowledge they do not fly to cuckoo land!!!
18 years experience both BA mainline & CX and whilst I am on a part time contract I can tell you that nobody at BHX earn anything like that, whats your source??

With a very high proportion of CSDs and pursers, and many with more than 20 years in BA, my "sources" tell me that, as an average, the cost to the company (including pension contributions) won't be too much different to the figures quoted.
Still, it sounds like the company can afford it.
Whatever the true cost, it doesn't sound too smart?

2k a month eh?
As Ex-BAR cabin crew,I have to say that I am amazed at where you get the figure 2k from! I've been at Brum 9yrs and I don't see anything like that.If I was at LHR then yeh, maybe. Why should I work 10x harder, earning over 10k less a year just to fit in with a doomed new company's budget? You pilots certainly wouldn't-every penny counts?!

The £2000 a month refers to "cost of employment" not wages in your paypacket. When a worker is stood down they still cost their employer basic wages and National Insurance and the employers pension contribution. For a 20 year Purser £2000/ month looks a little low.........

As a mainline Baer the sad facts are that the company cares very little about the numbers sitting at home on full pay and allowances. Bear in mind there are a couple of hundred still at LHR alone from various areas doing nothing at costs well in excess of £2000 a month. For example a number of the terminal Duty managers were outed the tail end of last year and fill their time attending courses that are of little interest. That said having been on GL myself it is not a particularly happy time for many. I hope it turns out as well as it can.

145qrh - you are soooooo right. Classic case of smoking hole in the foot!! To be quite honest I don't think it would make much difference if some were on garden leave or not!! Considering the unions had to be consulted on everything, from whether it was ok to take a dump or not then I'm glad. Some rules I've come across are so ludicrous, it's no wonder the regions never worked!!
Restrictive and expensive......for sure!!
