hey,
any info you need about getting around on public transport in Perth is at the Transperth web site.
I don't think there's train IN Balcatta, you'd probably have to go from the Stirling Station, there's buses that go there though as it's an interchange so yu shouldn't have too much hassle...
as for the times, here's an example...
Anyway check out the site you should find what you need there

I used to catch the train from the Stirling train station into the city for my old job and it took me exactly 9 minutes! Stirling train station is very close to the Balcatta area.

Yup as Oz said Stirling stn is close to town - the train runs down the middle of the freeway...
if you use the Journey Planner on the web site, you can pick the time of day and it will estimate the time it takes. Of course this varies with traffic, train delays etc but it should give you a good idea. Also the frequency of trains changes depending on time of day (e.g. peak hour may be one every 10 or 15 min, other times it may be one every half hour....)

Sorry for taking so long to reply, have been overseas Thank you so much for everyone's advice. Will be moving to Perth in November and have been offered a job with National Jet. The only suburbs I knew in Perth were the city, fremantle and the cottelsoe pub for drinking at on overnights Have been hunting for places on the internet, just so hard to pick when I am so far away at the moment. Do keep posting anything about Perth, I can't wait to come over

Welcome to Perth!
I've been here near on 2 years. Having lived in most Oz capitals, Perth is not like anywhere else. It's sort of laid back (like SYD), with ADL weather.
Be prepared to get out of bed early! Me (and others from "over east") always laugh at how everyone's out of bed at 5am to go surfing - no wonder everything is closed by 10pm!
Seriously though, it's pretty friendly (unlike SYD), but with a SYD feel to it.
As for living - I sold my house in ADL and bought one in Subiaco - be prepared for MEL/SYD prices! From my home to airport takes about 25 - 30 minutes in traffic (and yes, the driving is bad), and the cabbies do it in 15-20 early mornings. Don't know much about public transport, except for the Freo line, but PER appears well served with it. Trains are regular and ON TIME. They're also clean (AMAZING!).
...but back to suburbs etc. I chose Subiaco because of my and my wife's workplaces, and ease of access to public transport. It has great housing, and is close to town and to the excellent shopping strip on Rokeby road. It's only 5-10 minutes drive to Claremont (BIG shops and good boutiques), and about the same on the train to the city. Given a choice, I'd probably live in Freo, but it's a long way to the airport (by PER standards). Cottesloe is filled with visiting UK Docs and Nurses, but has a good beach (if you're into that). Also a bit of a drive to the airport. For somewhere close to work and home, how about East/West Perth, or the areas around Northbridge. Mt. Lawley's pretty funky, and I usually spy the odd (Ex-) FA there too.
PM me if you want to know some more.
RD.

Hi WA.
I sent you a private message a couple of weeks ago - did you get it?
I work for NJS too.
If you want someone to go look at a place for you and see if it's ok, I can do that for you.
I'll have a look at a few places on the net in decent area's and email you the links if you like?
PM me your email address and I'll give you a hand.
