It is true that there have been lots of phone calls made offering a three week contract at AO to the strike breakers. They have apparently filled the places already too! It took less than two days...

Are these people serious?? Don't they see they are just being used again??

Apparently they only get 3 days training.....gee i'd feel really safe on that aircraft. Learning everything in 1 week was hard enough and I can honestly say even though some people passed/fluked their exams I would never trust them onboard an aircraft they have no idea what they are doing. Its pretty scary when you think about it.

Well Well Well, management think they are ooh so sophisticated

Another put the fear into em routine.

When the analysts take time out from their charts and have a look at it, they will start asking how is the relationship with the repsective unions? If i were broking i'd be telling my clients to start unloading!

The firms with which I have an association are in fact moving toward a divest rating from a moderate hold.. To those not in the know, it is quietly time to start unloading....Rest of the market will be slow to catch up

It's 3 weeks training, NOT 3 DAYS!

I was told it would be a 3 day training conversion course from 747 to 767.
Why would they have training for 3 weeks this time when we only got 1 week last time? and that was for a 3 month contract not a 3 week contract.

Hey amongthestars. Are you one of the strike breakers then. Yes it is most definitely 3 days training (scary stuff in itself) then a 3 week contract in Cairns. Please dont expect to be welcomed with open arms, in fact I think the locals will even see you as a threat to their industry. No offence but strike breakers are a dime a dozen. Apparently the dates for training are 19th. 23rd and 26th Feb then off to the fabulous tropical far north. Watch out for things that go bump in the night up there.... its a dangerous place.

amongthestars,

Did you take the position? If so didn't they explain to you what you would be doing and when you would be required? Or where they just vague as usual?

Hi!!!

So, you're willing to go to Cairns for a 3 week contract and then go home at the end of it? Is there any chance of AO keeping these guys on? 3 weeks isn't hardly even worth giving them a uniform, then again they could do what QF did. You might end up with an orange polo shirt and some black pants from Target!

Intersting to see what happens.

Come July we at 'The Star' will be in the SAME situation as you guys... I certainly hope your hard work and perserverance pays off. It is quite sickening some to think your management has taken this stance with you. You guys are a true asset to the QF Group and should only be proud of your acheivments.

You are entitled to be renumerated fairly for the quality work you do. DON'T SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS!

I am so glad you guys have the wisdom to know you are being taken for a ride.

Strikebreakers -
I don't know what to say other than think about what you are doing to these people's cause and indeed the Industry of which you now belong. AO cabin crew are not asking for anything more than a fair day's pay for a fair day's work. Surely it can only deserve support from everyone in our Industry?

Please remember that you are part of this Industry and should do all you can to maintain conditions and support other workgroups. In doing so you are only making your own future brighter. I don't want this to come across as preeching. It is a horrible situation for you to be in I am sure. Just please be 100% sure that whichever decision you make is the best for your own situation and the Industry as a whole.

The FAAA told crew at meetings that it is true that strike breakers are trained up and ready to go if AO crew take strike action. They will be placed in hotels around Cairns and ready to replace crew at a moments notice. Given this information strike action seems pointless seeing the flights will depart regardless of any strike action. Think carefully about what you hope to acheive ! It's a tough situation !

If you want information why don't you go and ask the company that is going to use you as a strikebreaker. This thread is about AO EBA.

If you want a thread about strikebreaking, start your own

amongthestars - hopefully by now, you're aware that you are involved in a complicated situation in which feelings are running high.

It might be worth considering your text carefully before you next post on this thread. I'm not telling you what to think, do or write - moderators are required to be neutral. However, moderators are also required to try and keep an emotive thread on track and within PPRuNe rules, and although you may not realise, or intend it to be so, your last post might be considered inflammatory.

Many thanks.

For all those AO crew wanting to know where the strikebreakers might be... I saw a very mysterious group rock up to T2 in SYD in a qantas bus all head to the Jet Star check in counters two days ago. I think they might be in the Gold Coast.... not Cairns.

Angry

Strikebreakers be warned.

CNS is a small community. AO crew are well liked in the Cairns community as the airline has helped provide major growth to the area through the good work of the airline and it's crew.

Many AO crew are married/dating airport ground staff, customs, quarantine, pilots, hotel and tourism employees.

You will be discovered - we will know who you are.

You won't be getting a uniform - you will stand out like a sore thumb.

No airline in Australia will hire cheap 'would be if you could be' scab labour like you again.

You won't even get a chance fly as the crew will still be going to work but taking other type of industrial action.

Good Luck in getting your old jobs back. Maybe you can wait for the next strikebreaking recuitment for Jetstar in July this year. I am sure you are all experts at being hired for strikebreaking contracts with your recent QF and AO contracts.

Qantas should establish a seperate division for strike breakers, under the watchful eye of Geoff Dixon.

Last year we had the QF long Haul EBA, this year we have the AO, Jetstar, Eastern and QF Short Haul EBA. Bound to be a decent amount of cost involved to train and retain this division, which in turn will hopefully eat away at the bonus' senior management receive.

At the end of the day only a strike breaker can say they have been endorsed on all QF aircraft ranging from the 747 down to the Dash 8 all within a year without actually "crewing" any of them on actual flights.
