VS memorabilia
Hiya guys!
Just a quick appeal! , does anyone have the 1990's vs male or female uniforms? , these are pretty much the last ones that we need to finish a collection ... no problem in paying for them aswell! lol

Hi , I sold one last year for £200 - there was no problems selling it due to the fact that it was obsolete. I'll have a dig around , but i dont think i have got anything else ... could do with another £200 on my wages! 
That's funny, I thought all old uniform was supposed to be handed back in when you got the new one?
This board is full of complaints re poor Security at various airports; selling complete or parts of uniform is irresponsible as it might be used by someone to gain access to an aircraft or airside at an airport. It shouldn't work at home base, but it could well work at an airport off the normal routes where they are unaware of the uniform change.
Not a good idea to sell uniform on the internet.

What rubbish. You can buy military uniforms on the internet or pop down to your local army surplus store and get a nice camo jacket. Do you honestly think you could then go to your local Army base and walk in? I think not. Security passes get you into sensitive airport areas, not an outdated uniform. Let's face it if that's the case anybody with a few quid could buy an outfit from any uniform supplier, add a couple of badges and some scrambled egg and away you go.

thats a good point , but the item that we collect are all about 10 yrs since any uniform changes anyway!
I dont know of any airport that I have personally been to that would let you airside if you didnt have an id regardless of what you were wearing! , and if that was the case then people could wear some sort of smart suit and claim to be from any airline!

If airlines were that concerned about security issues they would have requested that crew hand each and every piece of the uniform back in and account for it.
Recently I went to a large office building in the centre of Sydney and what should I see in the lift but a very professional looking business man thank to the old Qantas jacket he was wearing. The Qantas gold buttons with Kangaroo sticking out a mile, proud as punch he was.
Old uniforms can even be purchased on e-bay these days.

Most airline contracts put the responsibility of return of uniform on the employee, but no system is foolproof, and staff are very clever with their reasons why they don't have certain bits to hand back.
That doesn't alter the fact that with the difficult security situation which exists in the world at the moment, selling goods on the internet isn't being very careful with your own future safety or of those you leave behind if you are leaving the job.

I think we have to bring all of this into context, after all this tread was stated regarding a memorabilia collection!
There are a lot of collectors worldwide, ie .
As far as the security issue is concerned, galleyhag is correct, there are loads of bits of memorabilia and old uniform floating about . I remember being in Madrid and seeing an old lady walking down the road wearing a 1980’s ba blouse!
Another consideration is that I would probably be far easier to gain a police or security uniform than an airline uniform! … I’m sure we have all seen police fancy dress outfits before!
Regarding the use of uniforms to gain access to airside areas, if people could gain access to airside areas simply with the use of a uniform and no id badge, I would suggest that nobody ever flew again!! Lol

I am not sitting in judgement here, I am simply pointing out that selling via the internet, to someone you have no knowledge of, is not a great idea.

I happened to be browsing ebay and found a just replaced VS uniform for sale on there.
That uniform is not much different to the current one, and could easily be used to fool airport security.
Current bid on it was £800.
A quick email to head of scurity at VS and within an hour said uniform was no longer for sale.
Those of you saying it isn't possible to get through without a pass obviously havn't seen sky news' footage from LHR about 2 weeks before xmas when they just walked through dressed as a cleaner completely unchallenged.
All it takes is for said nasty person to loiter and wait for some situation to occur where they can slip through un-noticed.
It can and does happen even with the best security, so think what could happen in some far flung place with rubbish security.
