Question Duty Free/Commission?

It always amazes me at how different all our airlines are on how we offer the Duty Free Service, who does what and who gets commission etc.

I, for one, believe it should be shared by all cabin crew. I heard from friends that some airlines it works that only the person on the D/F carts get the commission, some not everyone does a cart, some everyone does a cart and so on...

What do you think is fair?

How does your airline work?

I think some of us are getting a bad deal here! I know the days of making loads when your on short-haul charter has gone since the crazy EU changes, but hey, give us some dosh back! Answers on a Pprune card please

At easyJet we all usually have a go on the 'tax-free' trolley on our flights. It's always certain flights too that you know you're going to sell out of 'Shimmer City' or 'Juicy Tubes' or whatever. As we only operate with 3 crew on the 737, our commission is 10% of the total on-board sales split three ways & on some of our longer two sector days (AGP) or four sector days, we can take anything around the £900 to £1000 mark! We don't even need to sell alot on the 'tax-free' trolley as most of the on-board revenue comes from drinks, snacks & sandwiches. hope this helps.

At BA the commission equates to 10% of the total sales onboard. This 10% is then split by the number of people onboard (cabin crew only) PLUS one additional share for the CSD and each of the bar operators.

I.E. With 12 crew including one CSD and four bar operators you would have :

12
+ 1 CSD
-------------
13 Shares
--------------
+ 4 Operators
------------------
17 Shares Ttl
------------------

This way, everyone gets a share but those who manage the selling are rewarded with an additional slice of the comm!

Yes, I agree it should be shared by all cabin crew. Never heard of the flight deck getting it anywhere I've worked. For me personally, on longer flights we don't really need more than a couple of crew doing the carts but we all help set-up etc.

At TCX the commssion is split between all the operating crew.

A320 5 crew
B757-200 6 crew
B757-300 7 crew
A330 9 crew - although when operating longaul, the bar is roundtrip so is split with o/b crew and i/b crew, so 18 in total.

12% on all sales.

SSH is a good earner!

SSH is a good earner
Interesting... why is SSH such I good earner? I've heard a few people say this. Having never done one myself, I don't know!

Is it because they're on the aircraft so long that they buy loads of drinks and stuff or is it more that they like to spend their money on duty free? Maybe its like the good old days when I did LCA turnarounds, get them trapped on the 757 for 5hrs each way, feed them lots of salted peanuts so they're dead thirsty then flog them lots of duty free ciggies!!!

MONARCH CABIN CREW;

At the end of every flight, add up the money and work out whether the bar is up or down.99% of the time your up....right?
So how is it then, that every month you receive your commission in your monthly pay check, you always have a deduction taken out for 'average bar downs'? That's because they lump all your commission into one big pot,so there's no way of keeping track, and low and behold, every month the company deducts around £10-£20 of YOUR money and in the process, saves itself around £150,000 a year....at least! Come on guys, wake up and smell that coffee you serve and stop them ripping you off! ANSWER ME THIS.......HAS ANY MONTH BEEN IN THE BLACK OR IS IT IN THE RED ALWAYS?..........SOMEONE IS HAVING A LAUGH!!!

Talking Monarch Bar Commission

Can see that Monarch have been living in the stone ages regarding the pooled commission structure currently in place. Thanks to our new M.D. it looks as if we will finally will have a fair system where those that work hard will recieve the spoils, and those that can't be bothered won't. SSH route won't seem so bad now! All they need to do now is sort out the unfair rostering system.....
