I went to my interview for virgin just over a week ago and i was given a maths test. It mainly based around currency and giving customers change as well as calculating the time taking into consideration the time differences etc...

I hadnt done maths for years and was pretty nervous about it but its fine! There is a time limit but you shouldnt find it too hard!

Good Luck

Oh and they also allow you to scribble... you just have to circle your final answer so that they know!

Hey Ms MillMoo, do you mind if I pick your brain just 1 more time?

Regarding the math stuff (I know I am thinking way too much) but are the questions regarding currency like:

a- Mr blogs buys something for 15 pounds with 500HKD, what is his change in pounds with exchange rate at 1pound=14.1HKD

or (more simple)

b- 1pound=14.1 HKD how many pounds are 500HKD?

sorry to bother you with this, just I would feel a bit better if I was able to get a specific understanding of the level required, because division without a calc using decimals....eeeekkkk

Thanks again

I got the Job!!

Hi Everyone!

I had my interview on the 19th July and I found out on Saturday (24th) that I have the job. I start my training on the 14th Aug. (Virgin)

I am soooooooo excited! I live about 2 hours drive away (In rush hour) so I am considering taking up accommodation in one of the houses on the list given to me. Does anyone recommend this? I was thinking if we have a lot of homework - those 2 hours will be very valuable. Also - I thought that it might be nice to be near everyone else if lots of people stay local.

Is anyone else on here starting their training on the 14th Aug??

Thanks and I loo0k forward to maybe meeting some of you soon..

Sally

Well done Sally!!!

I found out i got the job today too!!! So, so, so pleased!!! I also start training course on the 14th of August so ill be looking to find somewhere too!!

OzyOs,
heres two questions i remember and the rest are basically the same!
1) You leave LHR to Boston at midday, two hours into the flight a passenger asks you the time. Boston is 8 hours behind (not sure if im right on that but you get the idea!) what time would you tell the passenger?
2) A passenger spends £25 on some sunglasses, £10 on a teddy bear and £18 on a t-shirt in duty free, if he gives you £60 how much change would you give him?

Good luck!!

if you want to be successfull!

* Make sure you say hello and introduce yourself to everyone else waiting for the interview to commence.
A few ice breakers will could include:
- Hello I'm (blah blah blah)
- Where are you from?
- Have you applied before? (that way if you haven't they may give you some ideas for the day)
- What do you do for work at the moment?
(that should be enough to get started and get you talking to a few people)

* To get through the group exercise at the begining, make sure you provide ideas to your problem, acknowledge others ideas, don't hold back but don't be abrupt and try to lead the group - you're not going for a supervisor role so they aren't looking for leaders.

* Most important thing to remember 'NOT' to say is how 'you love to travel', or 'you're applying because you want to see the world' - it doesn't work like that.
You need to be focused on 'Customer Service' 'Exciting random schedule'.

* We aren't plastic Sindy dolls at Virgin so don't be fake. Smile and be pleasant and honest - if this doesn't come naturally or you're stressed from the car/train journey - take a few deep breaths before you go in, grab a coffee (Interviews are now at Concorde 2000 @ Gatwick - there is a small coffee shop on the ground floor as you walk in and get greated by one of the recruiters - leave an extra 20/30mins before your interview is due to commence).

* Most of all relax and enjoy it. It's more like going for a audition than an interview.
If you are not successful (as I have been previously) don't take it personally - there was a guy on my interview day who had been crew for another airline and did everything right - from what I thought - and didn't get through. Re-apply in 6 months! - That is seen as encouraging.

* If you get asked what would you do if you are unsuccessful - Reapply in 6 months -"I can't see myself working for any other airline - Virgin is so fantastic" - and it is, wait until you start work here!

* Oh and don't forget any of the required documents - have your checklist from your invitation letter and all that ready the night before. It is easlily done.

Hope this helps - any questions? Good luck y'all - See you in the air!

Preparing Q&A

Hi! Guys!
This website is really helpful, thanks for all you guys generous sharing!
There are only 3 days left for all we HK wannabe to get ready for VS's RD in Hong Kong. I am getting very excited since I was determined to join.
I quit my ex-airline and learnt swimming for VS. I am preparing some Q&A now. Scribbling answers and practising in front of mirror until I get natural.
Only that I always get nervous in the group, for this part I am not sure how can I get ready.

I know 'Dreaming For VS', its deffinately exciting, its excellent that you learnt to swim for the FA position, but was wondering why you would quit your current airline job before you have the go ahead for Virgin? I'm assuming it was a ground job because being able to swim is an essential requirement, but I truely hope your resignation wasnt based on a potential position with Virgin. I am not trying at all to sound negative, more concerned that (god forbid) if Virgin doesnt work out, you have something to fall back on?

Anyway, Best of luck for Sunday ...and let the games begin!

RE: Swapping Interview Date

They are pretty accomodating when it comes to changing your interview date - give the Recruitment Team a ring and ask for the interview dates that are available. You can pretty much pick and choose when is best for you to go.
