Hiya

Just a quick question! I'd really love to apply at Virgin, but I'm concerned about the height issue as I'm only 5ft. Can anyone please tell me how strict they are about height, and is it worth applying? Every airline I've looked at seems to have the 5'2" requirements, and I feel a bit gutted!
Has anyone under 5'2" been let through the system?? Any advice much appreciated, cheers!

Hi gatwick girlie,
They actually measure you at the virgin interview to check if you're 5'2" or over, and I have heard of some girls getting turned away because they're not tall enough... sorry!

Thanks for replying LittleMiss! I really want to work for Virgin (my brother works for them at Gatwick, not as Cabin Crew, but he loves his job!) It's so frustrating being short when I want this job sooooo much! Maybe I could get my brother to put in a good word for me?! (Joke!)

I guess, as Plan B, I'll have to look at other airlines at Gatwick, but I don't know if any would recruit under 5'2"? I don't know where to start really! Any advice anyone, it'd be much appreciated!

Hi Gatwick Girlie!

There is hope so dont give up! I know a small friendly airline (so im told) called Eastern Airways who have bases all over the UK. They recruit cabin crew who are 4ft 8 to 5ft 10 in height.

http://www.easternairways.com/careers

You might have to stick to an airline that fly smaller aircraft like the Saab and Jet Stream. Airlines flying larger aircraft request crew to be above 5ft2 as you need to be able to reach the safety equipment in the over head compartments.

Good luck in your search,

Ian.

Thanks for the info Ian, unfortunately they don't fly from Gatwick! I'm only 20 mins from Gatwick, so I was really looking for something there. Thanks again for replying though, I appreciate it!

So I guess the small planes are my best bet, then?!

Us Passport Holders Can Work For Virgin?

Virgin requires that you carry an european passport? I ask the Virgin lady over the phone and she didn't know the answer, first she said I couldn't have an application and then she said she'd put the request and then it was up to me to find out.

Does anyone know where do I stand?

Kind Regards to all.

just curious..

Hi to Virgin Cabin crew, - if for example you flew out from your base-Gatwick to Vegas one Saturday morning, would you return to Gatwick a couple of days later, with the same or different crew OR do you then fly on to other destinations before returning home?

You all look great by the way and seem to be having such a good time in your work!
Hope to be working there too one day!!

Thanks,
Beana

Question should i move to brighton?

Hello everyone!
I'm new to this forum so let me introduce myself: I'm a Dutch girl working in the airline industry in The Netherlands, but moving to the UK in november .
This forum has een very helpful in answering a few questions i had, cheers for that!
However there are still a few answers i'm looking for so maybe you can help.
I've lived in England before with my boyfriend of 6,5 years and we are now looking to move somewhere else in England, the question is where would be best considering I have to get to LGW and LHR within an hour (or is it one and a half?) no matter what airline i end up working for (altho I HOPE virgin!!!).
We were thinking of Brighton but is this feasable? Especially since I will have to go by public transport until i can afford a car. i did see there is a virgin express train to LGW, would staff get discounts on that? Is there an allowance for commuting (in the Netherlands we have allowances but not if you live within 15 kms of the airport)?
I'm currently working on filling in my application (needs to be perfect as last time i didn't get an invite, probable cuz I put my Dutch address down and will now put my UK (temp) address down) so wish me luck!
Everyone else in the process, goodluck and everyone who is training or nearly starting to train: goodluck with that too!
Cheers for answering,
Marjolijn-but U can call me mafgirl haha

^ With no car i reckon you're looking at the outskirts of London rather than Brighton ((which is over rated and over priced just as much as London!!))

I'd suggest maybe Kingston or Croydon. Like all places they have their good and bad areas!

I used to live in Kingston and yes i commuted by car but i always knew my back up routes on public transport if i it decided not to start ((which Fords have a tendancy to do in winter....))

If you do get a car Brighton is ok - for LGW it's perfect but a bit longer for LHR and of course you'll have to join the worlds biggest car park.

If you do choose Brighton, there is a free crew bus that runs from LGW - LHR so you could choose to do only one part of the journey and let the nice bus driver do the rest!!

Please HELP

Hey Everyone,

I have found some great information about airlines on here but the threads end up getting so long that I have lost all the useful stuff (v careless I know)

I have an interview with Virgin Atlantic in September and I could really do with some information about the company. I think I pretty much know what to expect from the interview process from chatting to people.

I also think that I know most of the trips are bullets- I was wandering if anyone could answer the following questions

What are the allowances really like? Could anyone give examples?

Are you likely just to do East Coast bullets or will you get longer Caribbean/ Asian trips?

Do you get an allowance for breakfast in the hotels- like I do with my airline at the moment about $10 per night?

What are you likely to get in your first year in your pay packet (minus allowances)
then with allowances what are you likely to get on top?

My god I have asked alot of questions but I promise to but a drink for the person that answers them I am sure that loads of other people are interested in the answers as well

Thank you

cheers striparella ! how often does this bus go from LGW to LHR and how long does it take?
how bout the Virgin Express trains, do staff from Virgin get discount on that?
I used to live in Tunbridge Wells, I guess I could move back there as it is dead easy getting to Gatwick by train from there, but then again, I would just love to live on the seaside.. such a dillema! Cheers for all your help!

Hi everyone,

I have my interview this Friday 1st September with VS. Very nervous. Tell me, does anyone know Virgin's policy on wearing glasses, I know some airlines are a definite no.

Thanks in anticipation.
