leemo I wish you and your fellow longhaul colleagues a speedy and successful resolution.

Alas I think this will be a long and bloody battle. EBA negotiations are vile things at the best of times and this one especially will not be a pleasant one.

Best wishes.

Rush 4 LHR Base ?

Contrary to many assertions that there are"hundreds" of Longhaul Qf Crew who would be keen to take up the offer of a LHR base, the number who have actually made a firm commitment is 45(forty five). Many have made enquiries but have realized that the fine print provides for too many "Gotchas"
This information has come from a source on the fourth floor at QCC1.I am happy to provide further details thru PM`s if any one is interested.
Further indications that longhaul crew are totally disengaged from QF and its dynamic change management emerged when only 20% of crew bothered to participate in a survey relating to employee engagement and commitment.
Plenty of profit, but the old fashioned enthusiastic Qantas service appears to be a thing of the past.
Develop an exit strategy....you are gonna need it !

Thanks for the info M2M.

Has anyone also heard that Mark Hassell will be returning to the UK to head up the Qantas UK management team? Great opportunity for him and would explain why he is so keen to get the UK base up and running.

I think he might be screwed when we strike and Qantas loose hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.

Pasted below is the BS reply I just received from the current transport minister. All we can hope for now is that labour become the next government of Australia on Oct 9th :

Thank you for your correspondence of 4 August 2004 to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, the Hon John Anderson MP, concerning Qantas’s plans to base additional staff overseas. The Minister has asked me to reply on his behalf.

The Department is aware of Qantas’ announcement that it will base 400 of its international cabin staff overseas. Ultimately staffing decisions are a commercial decision for the Company. While the loss of any Australian job is regrettable, experience has shown that Government intervention in labour market decisions of this type results in fewer, not more, jobs for Australians by reducing the competitiveness of our industries.

No great surprise in the response, but I have to say it won't be any different under a labour government.

Any letters that you send to a Minister rarely ever make it to his/her desk. The responses are drafted by public servants and despatched back to the sender.

There would have to be some serious interest from the Government before the Minister gave it any attention at all.

Sad, but unfortunately true.

get the punters involved

hi guys,
from now on every complain on the aircraft and every issue in relation to cabin crew should be refered by f/a's to dixon's and borghetties email address.
here is what you do
tell the punters there is nothing you can do as its the greedy boys decision to shortchange punters on many things.
[email protected]
[email protected]

be nice to see when the boys get 500+emails a day

since they want to minmise the upcoming disruptions they must be getting desperate. assigning all airbus flying to shorthaul and then offering leave to longhaul is not going to work. just dont take it. it will cost them another few hundred thousand dollars.
once they figure starts pilling up higher and higher someone has to be accountable.

BP234 Leave Opportunities

Opportunities exist for Longhaul Cabin Crew to request leave in
BP234. Leave opportunities exist for the following categories and
bases:

SYD CSM, CSS, FA
MEL FA
PER CSM, CSS, BFA, FA

Immediately Qantas have offered us long haul crew as much leave as we want over the next few months! Amazing that now they have transferred a huge amount of our flying to the short haul crew they are now over crewed in the long haul division.

I can guarantee that very shortly Qantas will offer redundancies to long haul crew, of course they will call it voluntary redundancy. What they are doing is gradually eroding the flying and conditions for long haul crew to force us into taking pay cuts so we get paid the same as short haul crew.

Its time everyone started contacting the company and asking questions:

[email protected]

[email protected]

I am also going to be calling the FAAA tomorrow and asking what they are going to do re: further attacks on our employment stability. I urge everyone to do the same.

I believe this latest underhand trick by QF managers breaches our EBA 'Majority of long haul flying will be done by long haul crew'. I say we should strike ASAP.

Confused....

Hey All...

Well once again I am totally confused with the Qantas Operation. Reading the latest post there is an inidication that Qantas is overstaffed in the Long Haul department, however, they are also in the process of recruting fixed term Long Haul crew. What exactly is going on???? It's just not making sence to me.....

Please explain!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers

They are also offering long to short haul transfers. Asian language speakers are prefered and get preferential treatment.

This is because now short haul will be going to Japan, Hong Kong, Manilla etc. the company need language speakers in the short haul division.

I just hope they don't get many takers from the language speaking crew. After all, in short haul, you don't get paid any extra for using your language skills.

more of geoff's goodies

hi guys,
have seen geoff's daily pay and i must say on the latest news he needs the money.
1) keep the original mrs. dixon in her lifestyle she is used to.
2) geoff's ex- secretary with whom he had a child recently left him to (its going to cost money again to keep her in a manner she is now used to)
3) geoff's daughter is on manslaughter charges after she killed a couple after having a boozy night and then driving. barristers dont come cheap
4) and there is his second pub in wagga. just in case some thingsdont work out.

but luckily geoff's had margarets ear by getting qf to supply him and margaret with a not so shabby appartment in the toaster. you know thats that controversial building behind the opera house. i am sure they negotiated a reasonable rent.

has anyone heard or seen a statement from the actu?
think its time to ask some questions

I think you should reconsider point 3 in your post above.
The matter is still before the courts and your info is wrong.

Have a go at "GoD" sure, but leave his daughter out of it,the case you refer to is a tradgedy for others as well.

Although there is now surplus crew in long haul the crew currently being recruited are as you know for short term contracts to work as "Strike Breakers" so you can expect recruitment and training to continue, while at the same time they are sending permanent long haul crew on leave.

Just a correction for Galley Hag:

Many of the Contract Longhaul crew have joined the FAAA. This means that they, along with all other LH FAAA members, do NOT have to go to work if a stop work meeting is called during the EBA negotiations.
They ARE Union members and as such they are covered by the same rights and provisions as the rest of the membership, for the term of their employment.
What ever ulterior motives Qantas has for employing people on fixed term contracts, once they join the Union, they are entitled to take protected action - without censure, or discrimination from the company.

That is true, BUT we all know what QF management are like by now and they will be promised the world to continue flying during the strike just like the MAM casuals before them.

oh and like you have a life.....oh thats right you are a wannabe who went to an assessment centre and suddenly had your references checked, if you are going to lie and constantly put other people down (namely me) at least get your facts straight about the industry first and the process of QF recruitment. You seem to be so upset about factual information I have posted, what cant handle the truth?

I certainly didnt take offense to what Tarantella stated it is FACT that maybe I or other people that read this board may not have been aware of. Unlike you I am interested in what other people have to say and take that information on board.

If you have a problem with what I say on this board dont read it but god help you if you ever become a flight attendant if you get so upset by my posts, like I said before it will all end in tears for a little baby like you.
