"I want cupboards...cupboards, cupboards, cupboards EVERYWHERE!"

Did you guys ever lash out and get a 'free hire' from the video portfolio at the front desk? Apparently, at the back of the folder was what our tech crew called "The Captains Selection" - a tacky medley of porn videos from the 80's.

Oh Qwannas, did we ever lash out!

That reception desk didn't know what hit it when the Link Kids arrived!

Between balancing their $6 roast & gravy special AND wheeling their trolley up to their room, one had to create space for the latest blockbuster releases...from 1996!

"Crikey Von, see if they still use Betamax!"

Yes we all know about "The Captain's Selection". I was reading them aloud one night for a laugh. (Porn titles are almost always hilarious when you read them aloud!) Anyway there was a group of pax from our flight standing behind us! Embarassing but amusing all the same!

Yes I think the designer had taken too much of something to have included so many cupboards in a hotel room. The only thing I can think of where the would come in handy is storing dead bodies or stolen goods?!

Re. Pacific Fair @ OOL. Hilarious. I used to love people watching there. Was always a treat! I reckon you could yell out the name "Shona" or "Chevon" and at least a dozen girls with ill fitting clothes, bad fake tans and stomach paunch would turn around!

Sad News

Sad sad news folks

The Country Club @ LST has had the rooms "refurbished"

Suffice to say someone had a particularly unhealthy obsession with gold velour when they were redesigning those rooms! Think Tacky meets Tasmania mixed with a bit of 1977 for good measure... But the biggest BIGGEST tradgedy about it is that they have taken away those amazing bedspreads and replaced them with some cheap sh*t from Kmart

LST overnights just wont ever be the same..........................

Have heard heaps about this Country Club and that QantasLink used to stay there. I am QF shorthaul and did my first LST overnight last week and was dissapointed when we pulled up at the old Novotel, now Grand Chancellor..So didnt get to experience the Country Club, which in Hind Sight was probably a good thing so I believe.

Oh and unlike the "Not So GRAND Chancellor" in Hobart, Launcestons is Posh like.. unless you hate that antique furniture look!!

Had to revive this thread...

This thread made me laugh so much when I read it, wondering if anyone has any new experiences to add to it?

How are the JQ overnights going?

WHAT OVERNIGHTS?

We don't DO overnights at JQ, sadly.

Not unless someone blows a slide out of home port - but is it really worth the $87 overnight allowance?

You are too cute Ditz!!
I shelved the last 20 years of my working life in the business to a distant memory.
I've been distracted for the last couple of years in getting other parts of the business off the ground. I forgot about the fun that I experienced and the beautiful characters that I got to share some days with away......They were truly the most delicious years that I will always cherish.
In the most intimate conversations that I've had the pleasure of engaging with professional pilots, it was their earliest experiences in aviation that held my attention. They always expressed a wonderful sense of urgency about signing on for work and delight about commencing a days' duty with the adventures that unfolded.
It was the same with my "senior" work mates.

Your words were treasured.

"The shortest distance between two people is a laugh"......as I leave "the biz" I will remember this and take it with me.

Oh, before I forget....
Ditz.
Stop calling the Health Dept. regarding the state of our aircraft!
I cant come up with any more excuses....

Whilst I suggested crew could call higher powers re. the unhygenic nature of our lavatories and galleys where did I say I called them myself? I was just sick of people whinging and not being proactive in improving their workplace. Made a suggestion is all. Never assume, Darls...

If the company don't want government authorities on their tail then they could just clean the toilets at least once a day (not happening in SYD) and exchange galley equipment regularly(or at all!) for washing/servicing.

Are you leaving the business? Where are you off to?

Memories so distant. Oh well. We don't even need overnights anyway... We have COMMISSION!

Probably my fav overnight EVER was a Jetstar 5 day MEL trip last November. Out of control to say the least... Who says flying at 'The Star' is not fun?!

well I tried my hardest for an overnight in AVV, went sick on a BNE-AVV last week but they stuck me in a taxi and sent me to Melbourne. How I was looking forward to having a great Avalon overnight story

Oh yeah... I forgot about that! So hows the new Bentley going? I am sure the commission more than covered the lost $$ from the overnights with enough left over to finance a new luxury car...

On another note, funny overnights that I have experienced on the Virgin Atlantic exchange so far include:

Narita: Karaoke @ The Truck - Oh, the glamourousness! Full of drunken air crew all on heat hoping to find a Truck F ....Although the place mysteriously cleared out about halfway through my fabulous rendition of 'Crazy In Love'

Las Vegas: Such famous hotels! The Bellagio, the Wynn, the Mirage, the MGM - then there is ours, off the strip, full of fat old americans in wheelchairs attached to oxygen bottles whilst smoking a cigarette playing the slot machines - and drink waitresses with rather 'robust' bottoms wearing black mini-skirts and gold tops running around barking 'cocktails, cocktails' at the top of their voice

Hong Kong: No night in Hong Kong would be complete without a visit to a nightclub area called Lan Kwai Fong ("Lick My Thong"), then down to a place called Wan Chai and a club called Dusk till Dawn... full of aircrew and prostitutes (literally!). Great bands, tiny toilets, never any room to move however always so drunk there that noone cares! The night is finished off with a kebab from the best kebab shop in the world - 'Ebeneezers'...

Washington: Ahh, the murder capital of the world (funny that its also the american capital?). Hotel straight out of the 40's, 10 mins walk from the whitehouse - thats really about it!

Thats really all I can add for now, however I am going to Shanghai next month - should be able to add a few stories from there!

Totally forgot you went over to the UK... Hope you are having fun.

Narita, Hong Kong, Las Vegas? Whatever... We have Avalon

They should totally ban overnight Kareoke. I got into a bit of a fight at the Jungle Bar in Rockhampton. This Aboriginal woman and I were all set doing this Kylie and Jason number and she said I was hogging the microphone. I think she was jealous because my dance moves stole her thunder during the solo... It never did get sorted. I got kicked out for dancing provocatively on the window sill! Class and style. Completely wasted on that town I tell you

Sinala, fantastic!! Sounds hilarious... though I'm sure your version of 'Crazy In Love' was not to be missed!!

How long do you have to go on your exchange???

(Told a friend of mine who has been to HK several times about the 'Lick My Thong' reference... she lost it!!

ditzy, if they banned karaoke, where would we get the funny o/night stories from??

Perhaps we should start a thread dedicated to just Karaoke stories?? My amazingly (un)talented voice has been practiced in many parts of Australia, and more recently, the world - including:

Narita (as previously discussed)

Hong Kong (at Red Box karaoke - although the name infers an activity somewhat different to singing?)

Perth (the day before New Years Eve '04, at some pub in Northbridge, the WHOLE crew including capt & f/o up on stage singing Lady Marmalade, followed by my rendition of Man I Feel Like a Woman - sung Man I Wanna Feel A Woman - even though I tend to prefer the more masculine breed of human )

Ditzy & SkySista - exchange is going great, having a right laugh - although apparently I am developing a pommy accent! Here until next feburary, about to do my Upper Class training course, so no more economy for me! LOVING the queue jumping international crew get to do (oh please, I dont do immigration queues - isnt there a crew channel? haha) however I am permanently tired! Domestic was physically demanding, but nothing a good nights sleep didnt fix - long haul kills your body! But I would not change it for the world, and am so pleased I still have something like 8 months to go here...

OMG, that was you?!

Yup, I think a CC 'Karaoke' thread is needed..... am sure we'll never be short of stories to go in that one....
