Too experienced............

Anybody else had the phrase 'too experienced' thrown at them recently?
I have twenty years under my belt as Snr Crew - both airline and VIP....Europe and across the Pond and have recently been told by two separate entities that I am too experienced for the post I have applied for........

tHis is doing my head in!!!!!!

I believe so.

But this time to a Pilot. I read it on the wannabes section. I know it's unbelievable, but what can we do, i guess they want people to lie and say they are not experienced.

I believe experience is a major factor in someones career, but some people just dont see it.

hmmm . depends on the airline's perception of your previous companies 'cultures'.

A lot of airlines steer clear of experienced crew, so as they dont want to pick up crew with 'bad habits' from other carriers.

All airlines like to have clean slates to work off.... want their crew to do it their way, and not for crew to be thinking you can do it better.

Ie carrier 'A' thinks their service standards and procedures are far superior to Carrier 'B' .... therefore why would they hire carrier 'B' staff, when they are already trained in 'sub-standard' standards and procedures.

Its not reality all the time, but it is recognised it is hard to 'train-out' previous carrier experience.

Its all about company egos......that most airlines believe their staff are the best, and another carrier's staff must, therefore, be much worse ...

My spin on it anyways

Nah - not heard anything either.....is that good or bad?

Your friend is probably going through the same as me....am at the chocolate eating stage now!

Spoke to Deborah at the agency on Tuesday and she said they would be intouch by Wednesday......maybe I am too experienced for them?

Talk soon

Crap isn't it?

I was even asked to an "interview" by a company I used to work for. Knew the people that "interviewed" me. I didn't hear a thing...I called them up and they said "Oh, you are overqualified" Even though they knew all about my experience and indeed knew me!!

Heard it a couple of times after that too. Guess it depends on the airline as mentioned above.

Thankfully don't have to worry about that now.

Good luck.

What is going on in Europe??

They will not hire you because you are to experienced, well that makes a lot of sense dosen't it. The reason they want a 22 year old 250 hour pilot is he/she will not ask any questions and complain about the company. This pilot is willing to work for almost nothing and probably also pay for training, saving the airline money!! Management likes that!

Well you keep telling yourself that is the reason......

Take a look at MESA airlines in the US. Everybody (the pilots) hates this airline because they are forcing the payscales way down. This airline operates very cheap and underbids other airlines because they don't pay their pilots anything. They hire young low time pilots to fly right seat in a CRJ making $14000 a year. This is devestating for the industry. If one airline is doing this the others have to follow to be able to stay alive in the market.

well

They hire young low time pilots to fly right seat in a CRJ making $14000 a year
this happens with all industries lately in england.

they get rid of "dead wood" beause dead wood knows everything. i find that the companies will be more willing to employ younger, more inexperienced people because they will take more cr@p if you know what i mean.

i think this is discrimination, as you said if one airline does it the rest will follow...this is what happened in the IT industry a few years back and the pay went down hill

Too experienced????????? No that translates as too old. Not just the airline industry indulges in this 'bellex'.

It's the same reason you can't get anyone in a shop or a business these days that either cares about their job or even knows what they are doing. Take someone straight out of school and treat them like they're still in school seems to be standard management practice these days. Us oldies won't take the crap but the kids know no better.

It's a sad state of affairs.
