this happens with all industries lately in england.
they get rid of "dead wood" beause dead wood knows everything. i find that the companies will be more willing to employ younger, more inexperienced people because they will take more cr@p if you know what i mean.
i think this is discrimination, as you said if one airline does it the rest will follow...this is what happened in the IT industry a few years back and the pay went down hill
