Thomas Cook - Wannabes & Recruitment

I have got an assessment/interview for cabin crew with Thomas Cook this coming week, I was wondering if anyone has any tips on common interview questions, common team exercises and what to expect etc...

Thanks guys.

TCX Interview

Hi Ronaldo,

The Thomas Cook interview is nothing to worry about. The recruitment team do their best to put you at ease and it is a relaxed & friendly day. When you are arrive, you are shown into a room with about 30 other candidates. You are called forward individually to have your paperwork checked (remember to bring photocopies of your passport & NI number!). You then have your height measured. They introduce themselves & explain a bit about how the day will work. You are then split into small groups of about 4-5 people, plus one of the recruitment team. You introduce yourself to the others and are given the opportunity to ask each other questions & discuss the cabin crew job & airline industry. I think they are looking at your confidence in speaking in front of others as well as your listening skills here. So make sure you listen & appear interested when others are speaking. Then it is test time. I think you get about 15 mins and the questions cover basic general knowledge about Thomas Cook Airlines as well as some currency & geography questions relating to places they fly to. There are some maths questions which you can use a calculator for. At my day, they provided them for anyone who didn't have one, but to be on the safe side I would bring one yourself. I worked fast through the questions and only just finished on time. So don't spend too long on any you are not sure about - you can always come back to them at the end if you have time. You are then shown a DVD & given a talk by one of the recruitment team about the job & have the opportunity to ask questions. So that's the 1st stage. You are then split into several groups - one group unfortunately gets sent home and the others go on to the group exercise. The there are a few different exercises they use - at my day there were three groups & we all had different scenarios. As you probably know, what they are really looking at is how well you work as part of a team, so the subject is irrelevant. As long as you contribute, without being too dominant I'm sure you'll be fine. After the group exercise you have a break and then get called back into the room you started off in. They separate you into two groups - one being unsuccessful & the other through to the 2:1 interview. The 2:1 lasts about 45mins-1hour and you get asked pretty standard airline interview questions & asked to give examples of when you have given excellent customer service, worked as part of a team, been under pressure, received feedback etc. At the end of the 2:1 you are also given the opportunity to ask any further questions you may have. That's it! They told me I would find out in 2-3 weeks and it was 3 weeks to the day that I got the e-mail saying I'd been successful. Hope this helps. Congratulations on getting an interview - they certainly don't invite everyone to assessment days.

Good luck!

Hi Could You Please Give Some Examples Of What Kind Of Questions They Ask In The Test? Such As The Geography And Currency Questions?

jojojo 5th Feb 2008 17:42

I am already thomas cook crew and dont worry, they just want you to be yourself!!
dont be quiet or too loud, try to make a joke or something!! just have fun!
They have a few test, really easy s dont worry

finding_nema 13th Feb 2008 20:08

The TCX interview day is really professional, but they go to great lengths to make sure that you're relaxed and that your personality shines through, and is exactly as Marty172 has described. The questions they ask in the 2-to-1 interview are typical of airline interviews, mostly asking for examples of various scenarios and to get to know a little more about you.

I've successfully got through the application process and have been told that it'll be by the end of February before they find out if they have the vacancies at my bases of choice, so it's very much fingers crossed, but it'd be an amazing opportunity. I was really impressed by the interview day.

Ronaldo7 14th Feb 2008 17:34

Hi "FN",

That's great to hear, I have also had an E-Mail confirming I've been successful. The bit that I'm most pleased about is where you have said "I wont find out dates until end of February", I was getting myself worried and depressed by the fact I hadn't received a course date yet, but I believe they are still recruiting which would explain the delay. Just out of interest, what is your base preference?

Regards,
Paul.

finding_nema 15th Feb 2008 02:21

I think all of the recruitment days have now been done, but at the moment they're working out who is coming back from both MYT and TCX, plus are working out how many new people they need and when they're going to train them. The email they've sent out is they're hoping, but cannot guarantee, that they will know all of this by the end of the month, so it's just sit pretty until then!!

I've applied for BHX and EMA.

assessments and interviews

Hi everyone, I got through the assessment process 2 weeks ago at the Hollings Hall venue. Now been invited to Manchester to do the 2:1 interview. Anyone out there able to give me advise on presitation, What questions they may ask. And just generally what to expect. I have never been to a interview for cabin crew before, so I have no idea! Anyone else got interviews next week?:\

Ronaldo7 17th Feb 2008 09:55

Hi Linzi,

I had my interview/assessment 3-and-a-bit weeks ago and since been informed that I have been successful.

They want you to look smart, presentation is very important. As far as the questions are concerned they are just general things like "Give us an example of when you....." etc...

Good luck, I think you've certainly done the hardest part of the assessment.

Cheers.

Thomas Cook Cabin Crew Start Date

Hi guys,

I recently attended Thomas Cook Cabin Crew assessment/interview and since found out I was successful. I was just wondering if there was anyone else in the same boat?

Cheers,

success!

Hi Ranaldo
I had my 2:1 interview yesterday, and found out to day that i was succesful. Hurray. The only thing that is worrying me is that they have said that they can not confirm wether or not they can give me employment for summer 2008. they did say they would contact me at the end of feb when things become more clearer.Im hoping to get a place at leeds/bradford and dying to know if and when i will start my training. ps : thanks for your advise on the interview

finding_nema 20th Feb 2008 13:20

That's exactly the same position that I'm in, and I've gone for EMA/BHX bases, so would imagine that we're going to hear from them either the end of this week or next week, so fingers crossed for everyone.

Ronaldo7 22nd Feb 2008 10:36

No problem Linzi, glad to hear you got through it's a great feeling ain't it? Exactly the same as me, I'm desperate to hear my training date, I've handed my notice in where I work effectively so I need to be hearing soon!

I would think sometime this week we should be hearing, I'm hoping for MAN.

R7.

Ronaldo7 28th Feb 2008 08:33

Anyone heard yet??? Is this normal???

Please help!

linzi76 28th Feb 2008 10:30

Noop, still waiting too. I'm sure they'll be in contact soon. It's driving me mad though. I really need as much notices as poss, so I can hand my notice in to my current employers. When do you think they will start the training? ( beginning of April?)

Ronaldo7 28th Feb 2008 11:15

I know what you mean it's killing me.....

I think that the training will start 1st/2nd week in April according to the banter that I've heard. Someone else also said that they started training as late as 14th April last year so it's not that unusual.

I think if not by tomorrow, then mid-next week should shed some light I hope!!!

I've looked on my application status on Thomas Cook vacancies website and mine says "on hold awaiting contract".

Let me know and vice-versa.

R7.

finding_nema 28th Feb 2008 11:39

My profile is still saying "on hold and awaiting contract" as well, which is quite annoying, but I rang TCX recruitment up earlier this morning and they said that all letters for BHX are being sent out tomorrow.

Ronaldo7 28th Feb 2008 11:42

Finding nema,

That's surely good news then for you isn't it??? If they're being sent out tomorrow!

I'm waiting for MAN and haven't heard anything, having to leave messages when I call them, I get no reply.

I need to know the suspense is killing me...as I'm sure you feel the same.

Ronaldo7 28th Feb 2008 14:10

Just spoke to TCX at MAN, managed to get through. She said that they are unable to make any decisions on job offers until next week!

R7.

linzi76 28th Feb 2008 17:23

Oh no. I thought they would have sorted everything out by now. I wonder if this applys to Leeds/Bradford too. I suppose we will all just have to wait and see.I'm off to see what my application status is, since I only completed the interview process last Tuesday.Do you think it could be a case of first in, are the first to get offered employment? Let me know how you both get on?Argggg

Ronaldo7 28th Feb 2008 20:16

It is first come, first served unfortunately, (I have been informed), I have handed in my notice already at work where I have a good job), it doesn't look good!

Regards.

iain8867 28th Feb 2008 22:25

Contracts

Ronaldo

You should never hand in your notice until you have your contract signed and on it's way back to the airline, this goes for most of the charter companies.

TCX are still tweaking the flights for this summer so they are taking longer to decide on crew numbers, I think the letters should be out soon tho' so that they can get the training rosters out. I know that the Re-joiners have now received theirs so the Initials should be out soon. I hope you don't have to wait too long

Ronaldo7 29th Feb 2008 08:07

Iain,

Thanks for that. I know I shouldn't have (re: notice) but it was my first application to cabin crew and I never knew that it was possible for things to collapse, silly of me I know!

I just hope that the letter next week is good news. I was the first person to ber interviewed in the January courses I believe so I don't know if that will help at all? If only I knew how many they are taking on...

Thanks.

linzi76 29th Feb 2008 21:39

Mine also said"on hold, awaiting contract", but to be fair, I've just being reading all the comments on cabincrew.com. Things aren't looking too good.Obviously alot of rumours are flying(pardon the pun) around, some people have already got their contracts, for certain bases. But if it's all a case of first come, then why put up advertisments that they where recruiting in December. Why carry on having interviews up to last week. I for one, will be really hacked off, if i'm told that all positions have been filled. Surely tcx must have had some kind of indication of what numbers they needed for each base. :(

Ronaldo7 1st Mar 2008 09:14

It's a good point what you made about why still recruit, I think that those interviewed in January and February this year still have a chance because they wouldn't spend money recruiting and taking cabin crew off duty to interview if they knew their numbers had been filled. Since the merge I think that they will take a lot on which is the reason for them interviewing in Jan/Feb 08. Next week we will see i'm quite confident about that!

Just got to hope that luck is with you when it arrives!

linzi76 5th Mar 2008 11:18

Anyone heard wether or not they have a contract or training day yet?

linzi76 5th Mar 2008 21:04

Recieved my letter today. no vacancies for 08, they will keep me on file for 09. But the best is ....they can offer me work in Belfast..
Ranoldo.... I hope you get what you want,! But i feel very gutted at the moment. I hope you still have a job if you didnt get through.
( I'm flying with Thomas cook in August, I'm gonna make sure I have that cabin crew running around after me...ahhh)
Hopefully will work next year. Take care and post back with what happens with you and finding nema. ps man u played well last night.. bye

finding_nema 6th Mar 2008 11:22

I got a letter from them today, regarding BHX, telling me that the base was fully crewed due to the merger etc., but my details were being kept on file, and that if I was interested in flying from LGW to let them know by March 15th. Sadly it's not an option to transfer due to other commitments, but on the other hand, I'm thrilled I got this far in the application process and will definitely consider reapplying next year. Good luck to whoever is still waiting and commiserations to those who are in the same boat as me!

Ronaldo7 6th Mar 2008 13:25

Linzi, Finding Nema,

I too have been told that MAN is full due to having to honour promises with last summer's candidates. However, I will be taking the LGW option so I relocate there next month. All the best for the future guys/girls, may see you soon...

R7.

iain8867 6th Mar 2008 13:42

Sorry that your first choices of base have been full  Congratulations for getting this far, some don't make it to the 2-2-1 others don't make it through the interview. Also if you are being kept on file you may find that as long as you still want the job next year you should be near the top of the choices, especially as you have waited for them!!!!

Ronaldo welcome to LGW, when is you training starting? By the looks of the summer schedule at LGW its going to be a busy time

Ronaldo7 6th Mar 2008 15:30

Thanks Iain,

My letter is at home I'm going to get sorted when I finish work. I spoke with someone from TCX the other day and they said that the letter is offering me Belfast, though if I want LGW then I have to reply back with a note in there stating this and they will then let me know my training date.

I will let you know.

Cheers.

R7.

Ronaldo7 9th Mar 2008 21:31

Anyone else taking the Gatwick option?

Ronaldo7 9th Mar 2008 21:33

Hi Iain,

I have sent my letter stating I want to relocate to LGW, I hope this will stand me in good stead for relocating to Manchester, I need to get that option.

Cheers for your help.

R7.

Thomas Cook Airlines

My daughter is going to a Thomas Cook assessment day at Gatwick shortly, can anyone let me know what she can expect so she is best able to prepare.

Thank you very much

Aussie_Pilot 26th Sep 2008 23:42

Hello!!

i have just finished my first season at thomas cook at LGW.

DOn't worry for the interview the recruitment team will do the best to put your serlf at ease

the first step is a written test, it's like a mix of numeracy and general knowleadge I remember quiet a few currency conversion exercises, some question about Thomas Cook hisself, the main base of Thomas COok AIrlines (Manchester) Airport codes, Capital cities and similar thing. Not that hard.

then you have a group exericece we were a group of people who survived at a crash in the middle of the desert and we had to discuss amost ourselfs what to bring with us, the main topic is the discussion don't be too bossy and don't be too quiet, use an effective body language don't slouch sit upright, don't be nervous and you'll do fine

then you have a 2-2-1 interivew, one is asking you questions another one is writting down, question are the usual one, Why do you want to be a cabin crew? strengh and weaknees and similar thing like that.

the average take home every month is 1300-1400 £ plus allowance if you are luck to get a downroute night stop (it's unusual to be honest, in 5 months I've got only 1 night in Moscow (The night of the Champions league final) and 2 nights in Halifax and Toronto).

Being kept after the 6 months? Well It COULD BE... but I will not hold my breath for it!

Good Luck!
let us know how it goes
