Hi!!!

Was wondering if anyone could help me with a few questions I have regarding an assessment day with TC at Gatwick in December???

Do you have to do a self presentation in a group interview???

How many people roughly attend assessment days???

Do the tests come first and do people go home at this stage if they dont pass???

Thanks in advance :ok:

susie22 6th Nov 2008 13:12

Thomas Cook

Hi guys, I've got an interview with Thomas Cook in January 2009 and I just want to say thank you for writing how the interview is going to be held. When they say that contracts are temporary, so it means they don't hire people permanently!?? If one of you could give more examples of the questions they ask it would be great. By the way, English is not my native language so I hope you will have a good impression on it. Thank you for your reply...:ok:

Flying Squid 19th Dec 2008 10:13

Hi All,

I applied to TC a couple of days ago and was just wondering how long it generally takes to get a response from them???? Are we talking days or weeks???

Cheers FS :ok:

glider12000 19th Dec 2008 11:36

Expect to hear from them after Christmas. They have a lot of recruitment on, especially at Gatwick. Training dates aren`t going til be til March at the earliest anyway.

Flying Squid 19th Dec 2008 11:56

Righto cheers for that. March suits me for training if I were to get anywhere. I'm guessing the course is about 6 weeks long???My brother works for BA and thats how long his was so I'm guessing it'll be roughyl the same.

I wonder how many TC Cabin Crew have CPL/IR's???

glider12000 19th Dec 2008 17:10

Not sure, but expect a lot of XL/Zoom crew at LGW especially. Some with PPLs. Myself I have 28hours SEP, and have gliding experience and 2 years aviation degree.

finding_nema 26th Dec 2008 22:23

Hi everyone, not sure if this is much help to any of you, but I'd just like to give my experience of recruitment from summer 2008, and hopefully it will go some way to answering some of your questions;

I applied to the airline in October after leaving my last airline, and by December had an email saying I had passed the initial screening process, and to wait until after Christmas for an interview date, and in early January I had an interview on Valentine's Day. We were told at the interview, which was extremely professional - but at the same time very relaxed and friendly - that it would take about two weeks to hear from them, and what was in fact a month later, they rang to say I had the job, but not at my preferred base, so I had to turn them down. About a month after this, they said my base was recruiting, and they were sending a contract and medical forms out. I didn't find out however where the training was, at what time, or any other details such as pre-course work, until the Friday lunchtime, beginning the course the following Monday.

The training course is intense, but the trainers (there's usually two, plus people who come along to teach specific modules) throughout the five weeks are really helpful and supportive, and all the information given is really thorough, and they don't mind going over things again if people don't necessarily understand the first time. We had a great night in Manchester on our course to do our doors, smoke and ditching when we went to Cheadle.

TCX is a really friendly airline, with good money and benefits, and a very approachable management and training team. Though I can't speak for the much bigger bases, crews have merged with inevitable griping, but overwhelmingly, everyone gets along and gets the job done. Career progression at some bases, including mine, isn't so great, and that hasn't been helped by the merger, though there are opportunities to do winter work in the shops, as well as to work with recruitment or on corporate days as an ambassador. The company's biggest let-down is their organisation, the airline isn't wonderful with paperwork, there's either too much or it goes missing. But I think if that's the biggest complaint, then it's not such a bad place to work!

Only one person from this year's two initial courses were kept for my base for the winter, however almost everyone from all other years were kept on. If anyone has any questions, though it will only be on S08's information, I'll try and answer.

Kel36 29th Dec 2008 13:24

Hi susie22

Thomas Cook Interview!

Hey I have an interview on the 25th Jan with Thomas Cook in manchester! I'm really nervous about passing the numeracy and geography tests not rly sure what to expect?! Can anyone give me some advise??

GALLEY_SCALLY 10th Jan 2009 21:52

Tcx Assessment Day

The tests are general knowledge/geog/maths...

I don't want to give it to you on a plate coz it's unfair but just make sure you learn your UK Airport Codes, phonetic alphabet, Spanish Islands, Capital Cities, currencies, EU Member States that kind of things.... The questions will change but will be similar...

As for maths... Addition/Subtraction you are allowed a calculator..

Just take time to read the questions, if you can't answer, go back to it...

Good Luck

glider12000 10th Jan 2009 22:28

Try not to worry about the maths part, I completed it without a calculator.

Best of luck.

GeorgEGNT 12th Jan 2009 11:35

AirCrewBoi84 12th Jan 2009 12:21

Hi guys...

Im thinking of applying to TCX for LGW but have heard through galley fm that new crew on a temp contract dont do longhaul at TCX can any1 shed any light on this??

Cheers

finding_nema 12th Jan 2009 15:16

First year crew will not get to do longhaul on the Airbus 330, which does our Florida, Caribbean and Indian programme, however you do some longhaul bullets to Canada and The Gambia on the 757 and there's plenty of night stops away from base in the UK.

Kel36 12th Jan 2009 17:44

Was wondering how often new entrants get these longhaul Canada flights roughly, and also how long do you stay in Canada for is it just overnight? One more thing, why would you have night stops away from bases in the UK?

Sorry for all the questions :):):)

glider12000 12th Jan 2009 17:59

Kel, you might operate out of a base which has a small number of aircraft there but no crew so you might operate W patterns into that destination.
