6 months wait no longer applies

Hi guys

Just a quick question here and if anyone know of the exact answer..

Emirates used to make you wait 6 months before you could reapply again if you are unsuccessful during the group interview but now I have been told this no longer applies.

Is this true? I'm just confused as I was unsuccessful during the group stage but the rejection slip they gave out stated that I have to wait 6 months...

Cheers

If they registered CV, then you might have to wait, but sometimes, they just go on trust, and tell people to come after 6 months. I guess attend, and thats it. If You go and ask recruiter, - oh I was told to wait 6 months, but only 3 months passed, - they will say wait.. just attend, and act as it is 6 months.

Emirates Assessment Centre - Sydney

Hi Ayu,

I received an email invitation last Thursday to attend the April Assessment Centre in Sydney but later that night received another email saying that there had been a technical glitch and to disregard the invitation. It's such a shame as I was very excited to have received the invite.

Have you received an invitation yourself?

Hi Ayu,

The status of my application has been 'Application Received' since I applied around 6 weeks ago. In the email it said that if you haven't heard within 6 weeks to assume your application has been unsuccessful. Not to worry though, I'll try somewhere else

Best of luck with your application!

Ayu, Smiley or anyone else -did you hear back from EK about the Australian ADs?

I sadly have not received anything back. I wish they would at least put 'unsuccessful' and have an automatic email (it's not difficult). Rather than just keeping you hanging until 6 weeks passes and then you know you haven't been selected.

I'm sad I didn't receive a reply and I don't understand what is wrong with my application. I have relevant experience both job-wise and life experience wise, I have all the things necessary that they state on the website about what they are looking for. The issue that I think might hold me back is my age.

I made the mistake of turning 30, which means, according to the Middle East it seems, I am washed up.

Anyone would easily understand your desire to join his company the mere fact that you have expressed interest via an application. The burden of proof for suitability is always going to be the standard level where the applicants demostrate and put themselves in positions of growing the business than relying on it alone.
If you would show the competencies that demostrate resilience, safety & security, Humility alongside the standard ones of leadership, Natural communicator, passion for people - all day long, et la then I wouldn't see why not!
This company employs alots of over 30 year olds in the same position and it wouldn't be any exception for you or another. Carrying your head in your hands and looking at the negatives is not going to put you one past the others. Remember the old adage - "many are called but few are.........?"

Look on the positive side! Go on-

Excuse the 'negative' sounding, I was just feeling a bit down about not receiving invitation. Normal reaction when something means so much to you, I think.
I will keep trying, of course. In fact, despite not receiving an invitation to the AD there is an OD in another country - so I am going to attend that one.

The reason I asked about age, is because I've been watching this and other forums for quite some time, and watching EK CC blogs - and it seems that everyone I've seen go into YWBC/JFIP and get the GC has been around 21/22 years old at the time. And because at the last OD I attended, my RO looked at my resume & after a few questions, she asked when I graduated High School. As I told her, she looked back down to the paper, taking her time to write it down - looking every bit like she was doing mental arithmetic to work out my age.
I know it's not impossible to get hired at 30, because people have been hired in that age group before - but I know it's a very small number in comparison to the people that get hired < 24.

There was a rumor someone posted on another forum towards the end of last year about the 'maximum recruiting age' (which is not advertised, but apparently is an 'unspoken rule') changing at EK from 35 down to 30. I take rumors with a grain of salt, of course. But, I've followed hundreds of GC posts in the last 4 months, and like I said - seems like everyone was 21/22.

Anyway, I will try again. I'm just having a down moment - because I wasn't invited. Meanwhile, I applied for another airline (non-Middle East) and they have taken me through to the final selection process at the moment. They also provided feedback after the final interview, which was all very positive and the responded to my CV very well. The problem is, my heart is with EK. Maybe that sounds bad, because this airline has also won many awards and has done well for itself... but it's not EK.

So while I am in selection for this other airline, I'm going to take a sneaky trip to an EK OD, and hope that the recruiters see what the other airline saw in me. Insha'allah, this will be my time.

Past that glitch email, still no word of this vague application process! Anyone else in this boat too?

I'm sorry this arrives late but please understand the demands of this industry.

Again, I have no doubt what-so-ever that you have a seed of an exceptional CC with any Airline the fact that you've even impressed at another Airline in the selections and you've got the drive and determination to do things.
It's not true about 35 years down to 30 years over as I know of a recent arrival in that age group. However it is about the degree of your appearance (personality blend) pitched with your skills and competencies at selections that will land you an offer.
One key aspect applicants don't show through the application, selections and interviews is their motivation to be EK CC (and EK is key here). EK wants you to show what you bring to the table; yes appearance where you are a role model/ambassador/face-of-EK but what and how about the rest of it? You have to allign your goals to the company goals and show that you can do your bit once selected and this aspect has to show from initial point of contact (application) right up to job offer.
Your motivation to be EK CC is perhaps the biggest and perhaps the hardest to put across but this is where the "holy grain" is.

Cabin crews will always be there and about at any Airline. EK demands not exceptionals alone but ones that satisfactorily demostrate ability to thrive in it's business model. You have to understand what EK is looking for and build an image of that in you. It doesnt matter how fantastic you're but if you can't serve the company goals - not good in their opinion.

My advice would be to look on the positives you have and build on them, allign them with EK's point of view and watch the space. Much as you have shown enthusiasm to work for EK, you have not shown tenacity or resilience to over come set backs. And this is what this job is all about. Not being invited or failing an interview is a set back and you are invited to show resilience and learn from your mistakes and bounce back a much better person, We all fall only to bounce back, these set backs are our good fridays and therefore we must show our resurrection , our come backs. I appreciate that you have followed this forum over the time but please understand that majority of CC are not on this forum. There is quite alot to do when you come on board, lots of things to take in.

My grand father once taught me never to allow justification of my failures in terms of colour of my skin, age, gender and religion but purely on my inability and it has done wonders for me.
I'm not telling you what to do or how to do it or how to live your life but I'm only responding to your line of inquiry and that's why I have not deliveried the "holy grain".

Best regards and good luck.

Looking good for your Open/Assessment Day

Hi EK wannabe's,

As an ex-wannabe and ex-EK crew, I wrote a blog entry that focuses on grooming for your EK interview, as well as some grooming expectations you'll come to learn when you're hired into EK. If you're interested, go take a look:
Emirates Open Days: Looking good for your interview | Joelle Chan blog

Hope it helps someone out there
Good luck!

Teeth and Scars!

Hi there,

Just wondering if I could get some advice about the dental exam.

My teeth look fine, and you wouldn't notice any problems. They're straight, they're white, so to look at they are okay. But I have had two root canals, with another on the way, as well as numerous fillings. This won't be a problem will it? This might seem like a silly query, but I've heard so little about the dental exam. I've heard what is needed, but nothing about why. So hoping it won't be a problem.

I've also got a scar on my forearm. It takes up about half of my forearm, it is quite large. But it's also subtle. It's faded, it's the colour of my skin, so it's very rare that people notice it unless it's pointed out. Personally I would think it would be okay, but they may have much higher standards with this than I expect. It really isn't obvious at all, but again, as with the dental exam, i'm just wondering how much of a problem this could pose.

Thanks!

CV drop off vs. Open Day?

Hello! I would like to ask the difference between the CV drop off and Open Day.

Because I attended an Open Day last month in KL. There were around 200 people who came. There was just a presentation and CV drop off. No height reach or group activities.

So was that an Open Day or a CV Drop Off? In the website, it clearly stated that it was an Open Day so I am confused.

According to some blogs and post that I read (THIS BLOG POST FOR EXAMPLE: http://jazzweibeloved.********.com/2...interview.html) , some Open Days have height reach, exams (math and essay) as well as group activity, aside from the Assessment Day after the next day. Also, there was only one recruiter during the said Open Day unlike in other Open Days in other places. There were around 180-200 people who attended that day.

Can someone clear this up? I have to travel to another country for this, so I would appreciate if the Open Day that I am planning to attend next month would be an Open Day (with height reach, etc) or just a plain CV drop off (again, like what happened in Malaysia, where I will be attending again).

Thanks!

Looking good

Re: looking good

Thanks so much for the blog you posted - it was really helpful! Just in regards to nails, as you have been a crew member before, are acrylic nails acceptable or do they need to be natural with polish on them? Only because mine have a tendency to break easily.

Comments appreciated!
