Hey everyone, I've applied for Syd base and have received all of my vetting green ticks almost a week ago - I guess I'm waiting for them to get in touch about medical?
Anyone else on a similar timeline?

The reality out there is many people cannot find fulll time jobs and struggle to make ends meet. The old mainline Qantas live in the old world and are lucky to still have their conditions. They probably have about 10 years left if the coronavirus doesn't kick them out sooner. People. do not choose casual jobs they do it to survive because we have created a world of those who have and those who have not.

You got this
Hi guys, current QCCA international crew. Announced on our emails and due to coronavirus - temporary changes will disrupt March -May calendar. Temporary Reductions on flights will mean more available workers than required in the short term.. they will be "forwarding crew training, pausing recruitment and offering temporary part-time (to current crew)"
in saying so, do not be discouraged as you are all in the best position to apply and be recruited. This is the centenary year for Qantas and a lot of amazing announcement to reveal for the coming decade -including future international destinations, the project sunrise and dates on new aircraft deliveries. More aircrafts = More crew required. fortunately qantas is positioned in a much more financial state to ride through the weakening demand due to coronavirus, than many airlines, so look forward to when u do get the call! Good luck team

I am on hold and was at the assessment day in May 2019 as well!
I've regularly called the talent team here and there to have a conversation and try get an idea of whats happening. They aren't certain and able to give a definite answer but she mentioned maybe around May. I've just read the most recent post at the end of this thread, and a current Qantas FA has written in saying that there will be delays because of corona-virus (read below). I'll probably call and double check this!

Hold period
Hi all
I’m currently on hold and have been since August 2019. I understand you can only be placed on hold for 12 months and then you will need to wait another 12 to re apply. However can come someone confirm if the 12 month period starts from when you’ve been placed on hold or from the assessment day/when you applied???
Very on edge considering the delays with corona virus, hopefully they extend everyone until this blows over.

In my active hold email they said the 12 months begin from the date of the assessment day. I've read other posts from people who have received emails saying it's from the date of application, and others with no deadline at all. If your email does not mention anything, it'd be best to email and ask.
If it's any consolation I'm also in the same boat. It wouldn't make much sense to restart the entire recruitment process from the beginning, so hopefully they will extend the deadline. Good luck to both of us

I am graduating from training next week and I thought I give you an insight of what’s happening. Things are not good at all. There is apparently no more training scheduled for this year, at least. Staff are asked to take leave without pay etc. Currently there is a surplus of approx 2000 crew at the moment. Flight reductions are in place until September for now. If you are waiting for a call anytime soon for a start date it most likely is not going to happen.
Us new crew will be reserve line holders for a good while before we actually get to fly. Its very tough and things seem to go from worse to worse each day. Not a time to look for a career in flying.
Just wanted to give you an honest view on the current situation.

I emailed them last week they confirmed I’m in the hold pool 12 months from attending the assessment day which was May 3rd 2019. They have also put a hold on all recruitment but will not be granting extensions 😞 makes no sense for the 12 month period to be from the AD and not the time you were notified you would be put on hold.

It won’t let me attach an image but I’ve just copied and paste the exact email from Talent Team.

Thank you for your email.
You will be in the QCCA Melb hold pool until 3rd May 2020(12 months from when you attended the assessment centre) Qantas has put a hold on all recruitment and unfortunately, there will be no extensions.
Kind regards,

Email:We hope you are well and thank you for your patience and continued interest in our International Cabin Crew - QF Cabin Crew Australia, Melbourne position and the time and effort you have placed into your application to date. As previously confirmed, as you attended an Assessment Centre in May 2019, your application is eligible in our active hold pool until May 2020.
As you may have seen, the Qantas Group recently communicated the operational challenges we face with Coronavirus resulting in many changes to our flying. Unfortunately, we do not have any upcoming opportunities to progress your application further for Qantas Cabin Crew Australia and as a result your application will no longer be eligible in our hold pool. We appreciate this is a disappointing result and thank you for your understanding and patience. You are welcome to apply to any future opportunities within the Qantas Group.
Kind Regards,
Qantas Talent Acquisition Team

I'm so sorry to hear that, danigirl. I got a similar email this month, but mine still reconfirmed I was on active hold and that they would be in touch with any updates. Granted, I applied for an MAM domestic position so they are probably expecting demand will bounce back faster than the international market. Not that I'm holding my breath at this point!
I know it's super bad timing and such a disappointment considering how hard we have all worked to get this far, but these really are unprecedented and challenging times for the aviation industry. I do think Qantas is trying its best to save its business and as many jobs as possible, and it's completely understandable why they aren't in a position to recruit anytime soon.
It's important to remember though that things will get better eventually. You obviously have what it takes to be a fantastic flight attendant and I'm sure once this pandemic is over and airlines are hiring again, Qantas or some other lucky airline will snap you and all of us up!

Thanks DeltaCabinCrew, for your response. I know it’s all just an unavoidable disaster for aviation and nobody’s fault.
I’m hopeful tho that when all this is over they may pull up the previous hold lists to fast track recruitment to get things up and running again. It does seem crazy to go through all the expense and time and effort to get so many to the point of training just to let them drop away and start the process all over again.
Still optimistic my journey isn’t over just yet 🤞🤞🤞good luck to everyone and stay safe.
