Am I being impatient...

Hi everyone..
Congrats on those who have made it in
I have a query.. My FI was 22nd November and my status is Approval In Progress. I was told to wait 4 weeks and it has now been 7 weeks!! I haven't contacted them as it has been Christmas & the New Year and assumed less people in the office.
I did my interview in London and I've noticed the UK is slower than a lot of other countries too.. Do I chase or sit tight?

Hi everyone...

I have a question: Does someone know if it is actually possible to re-join EK?? Has somebody heard anything about this? My situation is pretty tough I think, as I joined in May but I had to leave in September (so without finishing probation period) because of a bad accident happened back home to my mommy, who lives alone...very bad stuff...I could not stay away, was shocked...now fortunately at least things are getting better, my mom is recovering well...almost a miracle doctor say...

anyway, guess my situation is very tough, as I flew only 2 months and a half (no sicknesses, no absences) and obviously there are loads of people waiting to join..but I really would like to rejoin if possible! When I resigned I spoke to my CCM, she said that rejoining is actually possible (I asked her obviously about that)...but...well...i dont know, she did not look so confident lets say..I Dont know...any hopes to give me?! Is there anything I can do?!

The job has negative sides and positive sides as everything, but overall I cannot say anything bad about it, its a fantastic experience and I really miss it!! For all those waiting for the GC or for their OD, good luck!!! And for the ones who made it, enjoy!!

thanks! x

Vanille-Noisette

I don't know when exactly they will send the final approval, normally my DOJ is on 15th of january and I received the final approval yerstarday but Im unemployed I just got my diploma,so I submit a query and I explain them that I am not working I am ready to join and at the same day I received the response that I don't have to upload the resignation letter.
I hope in your case they will send you the approval soon.
I absolutely understand that you have to be sure 100%,but you have to know that the Eticket and Evisa you will receive it one week before your DOJ and they will not upload your Eticket and Evisa if you didn't resign.
So my advice to you is to log in the portal and submit a query try to explain them your situation they are the only one who can tell you what you have to do.
Good luck

dentals !!!

I had an appointment with my dentist today and i have 4 caries, He fixed two of them and because it was so painful he will remove the other two on monday then a panoramic x-ray afterwards. He also told me that some of my lower teeth aren't straight, he asked me if that will be a problem and i don't know the answer i don't have time to put braces. Im so confused now, do u think it will be a problem if some teeth aren't perfectly straight, when a smile the lower teeth aren't shown. I dunno know how serious is EK about that !!

Vanille noisette: u can see a sample of resignation acceptance in the contract that ek sent us on the portal (its before the last page)

Second Language

So, I was wondering, how many people that actually get hired speak a second language. At the moment I have very basic french language knowledge, which will be drastically improving over the next two months as Im gonna take an intensive french classes plus I live in Montreal, so it will be easier to get it down.

But I wonder how important this is?

Second Language

Thanks ToBeDijana,

I agree that its important. As I said I have basic french knowledge. Could I have a basic conversation with someone...yes. Could I explain emergency evacuation proceedures in french..no.

I live in a bilingual city everyone speaks English and French. I have had french classes since i was a child as its a mandaotry class in Canada from elementary school until the first yearrs of highschool. I get by, but I wouldnt say Im bilingual. I think Im just gonna study for the next 2 months as there is no Open Days in my area for awhile. By then I should have drastically improved my french as this is something I can also practicce constantly in everyday situations.

lol Maybe I can even rosetta stone a third language such as spanish.

What languages do you guys think are the most important?(other than arabic)

And no, Im not learning french through rosetta stone. There are many language classes in the city, so I prefer to go that route as its so accessible. I feel because I already have basic knowledge it will be something I can pick up quickly as I have the time to really do it.

As for a third language, I dont think rosetta stone is that bad I dont know ive never used it, only looked it over. But I think it can teach you basic conversational of whatever language you choose. But I could be wrong.

re: layovers/turnaround

I read every post on this site before i applied in 2011, so figure i should put something back in, since this is probably the reason i made it through!

Ive been here about a year now, and i can tell you that the rosters you get can vary somewhat, but what i can tell you is about 3/4 of all flights are layovers..

They may put you in Main Fleet (b777, a330, a340) or Dedicated a380 fleet.

The good thing about main fleet is that you literally get the opportunity to fly to 120 destinations all around the world, and there are new destinations being added literally every couple of months due to the amount of aircraft on order. The bad thing is sometimes you can have a roster with lots of tiring turnarounds (mainly indian turnarounds which are complete torture) but the majority of trips are layovers.. for example my roster this month consists of Rio, Bangkok Sydney Christchurch, 3 days Hong Kong, Mauritious... no turnarounds. Cant complain! if only every roster was like this.. didnt even bid!

Depending on gender/nationality requirements they can also put you straight onto a380 fleet. The good part about that is they only have 1 turnaround (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) meaning most crews get no turnarounds whatsoever. The part that annoys some people is that they only have about 15 destinations.. many crew complain becuase theyre being sent to Heathrow or Beijing all the time haha... but this will get better since they have a further 70 380s on order.. meaning destinations will obviously increase. but this includes adding indian destinations to the fleet . Many also complain about the Crew rest area which is thrown right into the middle of the economy deck meaning you can literally hear all the noise in the cabin, and the lack of beds and large amount of crew means less time for rest... On a 14hr SYD flight this can be quite tough..

You are able to Bid for flights, every month your bidding group goes up, it is done on a 7 month rotational basis, from top bid, to bottom bid, and one group which is set aside for reserve/standby month.

Swapping flights can also be done, but it is heavily dependant on legalities, and you will find your swaps often being rejected by the system unless they meet the dozens of legality requirements.

The layover lengths can vary, but generally theyre all 24-28hrs. The Ultra Long Haul USA flights are 50hrs. The aussie trips can range from 5-8 days, and usually go like this: DXB-MEL-AKL-MEL-AKL-SYD
DXB-BKK-SYD-CHC-SYD-BKK-SYD (this is the longest trip we have left - very popular)
Sometimes when we dont operate daily to a certain destination then you may be lucky and snag a 2-3 day layover. We currently have these for Vienna, Milan, Paris, Singapore, Hong Kong, Luanda, Shanghai, Mauritious, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Nairobi... But you have to be extremely lucky.. as the vast majority of trips to these destinations are just 1 day layovers... but still it happens!

If you wanna know anything else let us know!

I also flew with a recruiter last week and she told me heaps about the recruitment process.. if anyone wants to know anything ask away!

Rejoining / Languages

If you want to rejoin, contact the Cabin Crew Service Center and ask for a rejoining form, as easy as that! Although, my friend who resigned before end of probation wasn't accepted back. I hope that when you resigned you explained your situation, if so - no problem!

Only english is important, any additional language is a benefit, but they wont chose people who speak several languages over only english speaking people. There are many Aussies and British in the company! Don't list a second language if you are not a hundred percent convinced that you could handle ANY situation. They will find out and you will be in trouble. I have seen it by myself! If they need certain language speakers (arabic, chinese, french etc.) they will go to this regions.

A380

Some minor corrections: a380 flies to London (LHR), Manchester, Paris, Munich, Rome, New York, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Shanghai, Beijing, Hongkong, Sydney, Auckland, Johannesburg, Seoul, Toronto, Jeddha. New destinations this year: Melbourne, Tokyo, Sao Paolo and some rumours say also Rio, Amsterdam and Milan.. So we are having like 20 confirmed destinations. Also we are getting a second turnaround which is Ryiadh we wont go to India in the next couple of years due to their government blocking 380 to land there because they want to protect their own airlines plus the only airport that is ready to handle an A380 is Delhi. But not gonna happen in the near future! So as Perkin described, pro's amd con's, good and bad rosters... You never know what the next month is gonna be like!

Hi everyone, is anyone else having problems with the website when they try to log in?
One time it says it cant access my account and another time it says (because I kept trying to log on ) internal server error.
I used to read a lot on threads and I can't remember when they do the blocking thing from your account. Does anyone remember when they do the blocking from your account?

Thank you to who ever might reply,
and good luck to all,
(Two Melons that was a good post you put up, thank you.
It's thanks to posts like that I was able to better prepare for the interview)

Hi Crystal
Thank you for your reply.
Okay, I was doubting about the blocking of my account because I think ( not so sure) but it was after your status goes through the stages approval in progress and all these..
Last time I tried to log in was yesterday and it was opening fine.
My status was still under review so.

Thank you again and good luck
