thank you so much Mari for all the information.
the problem now is making it to an OD or AD.
im in Cairo and every time i decide to go to an OD or AD something happens!
-feb it was cancelled.
-28 may hotel staff tells applicants its cancelled, and now people are saying it wasnt! (BTW why would the staff say that?? Im sure that the recruiters stay at the same hotel, right?)
-the AD in June, applied for it but its postponed.
dunno anymore.
I am trying to have hope for the AD, that it would be back on.. but i never get anything from them on my account over the website.
i dont have much work experience..
i need advice please.

Thanks Mari for the quick response. So I was right, it's basically 24 hour layovers for most of EK's destinations, except those on the longer routes where it can go up to 48. However 31 hours for Sao Paulo seems less when compared to the other +14 hour flights LAX, SFO, IAH, GIG/GRU(listed on the Emirates world route map, but not yet in service). I hope those applying as FAs take these things into consideration, especially regarding the long haul flights. Or else it will be quite a surprise to them to be up there for all those hours (even with the crew rest provided) and then the 24 hour layover where you are basically recharging in your hotel room
Interesting to see that Toronto (with Tokyo close behind) is the one with the longest layover, yet is the most dreaded route according to some cabin crew, it being very demanding!! And this was even before the A380 flew that route.

And what's even more suprising is that an Open Day operates on the same lines as an Assessment Day, except that for the latter you need to be invited. Glad that has now been cleared. Hmm the 9:00AM SHARP issue does make sense, but I still say it needs to be called something else
PS: I know this is totally out of context here, but how does one get into crew scheduling? Would be a great place to work I think!

The reason behind the long layovers in Toronto: we only have 3 flights a week as the Canadian Government is not willing to give more slots for Emirates. So, Canadians now need a visa to visit the UAE.
The reason for some of the long Hong-Kongs: operational. Meaning aircraft changes. Those flights didn't go on the A380 every day but the crew either trained on the A380 OR the other aircraft types (main fleet).
No, most of the new ones are NOT prepared for the job. (Not only the job but being far from the family, living in Dubai, working in a multicultural environment.) That's the reason for the high turnover rate. No, most of the new ones don't do much research and know about the short layovers. It's OK: they either get used to it or resign in a year. You can always call sick if you are tired. Maybe you won't get your upgrade due to the high number of sick days but some people don't care about it. It's OK: better for the mature and hard working people who are physically and mentally stronger and more commited.

Thank you Mari for offering your help.
It means alot.
I honnestly am a bit confused on what to do now, and am looking for advice maybe.
do I wait for AD in Cairo maybe it will no longer be postponed?
do I write to HR and ask them about it?
do I just apply for another AD somewhere else?
can you maybe advise what is the best solution.
Even if AD is back do you know how long it takes them to send you an invitation ?
I believe I am qualified for cc, but I dont have much work experience and my impression its hard to get into EK.
Let me know what you think.
Thank you so much.

Yes Mari, I knew that the layovers were for that duration, due to the 3 flights a week (Mon, Wed, Fri). Though when I said it's interesting to know, I meant despite the layover being 76 hours, cabin crew dread getting these flights because they are so demanding, and some call in sick!!

This is why I always stress you need to hire "dedicated cabin crew" and yes especially the mature and hard working people, and not the ones who want to come to Dubai to party!! lol...(So now any hope of a 42 year old being hired )

Mari, you've been a wealth of information, and I hope you continue to be so here for these aspiring FAs I'll now slide back into silent mode
I just have a suggestion, maybe stress on the turaround and 24 hour layovers in the EK presentations at the OD/AD (not sure if you do, as I haven't viewed one) so that those who join know what to expect. But then, in the end only the only who truly aspire to be dedicated FAs will be the last ones standing after many years of service, as opposed to those who quit as quickly as they came!
PS: If anyone is interested to read about my trip reports on airliners.net (from a passengers perspective, feel free to PM me. And yes, I have flown numerous times on EK's long haul flights )

Open Day in Egypt
Ranaaa .. The day was not canceled nor postponed, seemed like there was a misunderstanding or some technical problems but they started on the same day 28 of may about one hour later and some of those who could not make it had to go the next day and drop their cvs, I posted a warning about it that night in the previous thread, sorry you could not make it, please keep trying, I am sure they are going to be here soon again . Good Luck

Thank you everyone, Mari, Cabincrew109..
Mari, ive actually looked into what you suggested about the agency but its a little bit more challenging here in cairo. over the website it says the agency is called Reach. When i called them they claimed that EK is not a client.
A friend told me theres more than one agency with the same name so still trying to get to the bottom of it.
Cabincrew109, ive recently came across this website lol.
it was too late by then . the only thing i was checking was the EK official website and nothing was mentioned on what was happening exactly.
About the postponed, i was talking about the AD in june.
Hope they come back soon like you said !!
Thank you again guys.

nina86, Yes they are very strict even if u made it to the final interview they will figure it out one way or another, you can check for real experiences on the previous threads.
rose gil, you are welcome .. I made it the next day and some other people dropped their cv's on the 29th and received a call back to come on 30th.
alanna21, as far as it is not visible then give it a try .. Best of Luck
Ranaaa, the Reach Agency's website is Reach Group - Home
Thought you were talking about the OD
Apart from the postponement on June I can see they are coming again in July for AD, good luck to all.
