MAM Cabin Crew (QF Short Haul) Recruitment

G'day Everyone,

Firstly, the only reason I started up this new thread for MAM Cabin Crew hopefuls was because I had checked out all the OPEN forums and found nothing of the sort for MAM hopefuls.......et voila! Welcome All!

Since MAM have begun a new recruitment drive for CC based in PERTH, SYDNEY and MELBOURNE, it kind of is appropriate to a have a forum created too.

I lodged an application on the MAM website (http://www.bfound.net/login.aspx?CoId=1419 - for direct access re: info on the role and the actual application) last week and managed to get an invite to a recruitment day for the SYD base late next week. If your online application is successful, you will receive an invitation via email to a recuritment day, which contains a unique code you have to put in when registering/booking in your place for that particular recruitment day (if you don't, you aren't eligible to attend the MAM Recruitment Day).

I'm booked in for Friday 23rd May but they also have availability for Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd May; Perth only 17th May (today) & Melbourne from the 28th - 30th May.

I'm already in the process for Virgin Blue CC, made it to the Medical and have been informed that I'm booked in for Ground School Training, but I thought I'd give MAM a shot, since its QF you'll be flying with (not working for) - a loyal QF boy I am!

Anyone else already booked in for Sydney?

Now, I know that there was info on everything MAM scattered in the archived forums, but it would be nice for someone to give us all some fresh and maybe current insight; i.e. rosters, how many flying days on average, conditions and how route/roster allocations work (more intl than dom for certain base? seniority a priority with roster allocation?, etc.).

When I was at the QCCA Recruitment Day in February '08 I heard some horror stories about MAM, re: conditions horrible, etc. but I, and I'm sure others, would appreciate generous individuals enlightening us all on the matter.

I hope serious discussion, encouragement and insight ensues here for all us MAM WANNABEs (MAYBEs for those like me).

Cheers All!!!

P.S. I know there are many veterans out there with a wealth of experience and knowledge regarding Airline Interviews, etc. but I am more than willing to advise or assist anyone's frenetic, mind-consuming questions pertaining to the process for both QF and VB (which would help when applying for MAM I would assume).

MAM (Qantas Casuals) 2008

I know MAM are currently recruiting so I thought I'd start a new thread for those going to the VRD's in the next few weeks.

Does anyone know what a MAM recruitment day will involve?
Or have any information on...
Pay?
Conditions?
Hours?

Thanks

Yeah, I'd also like to know a bit more about MAM. I'm guessing the lay of the land has probably changed a bit since QCCA has come on the scene.

I understand they are recruiting for MEL, SYD and PER right now, am I right? I have my assessment day in MEL coming up but I have put SYD as my preferred base. In actual fact, I would love BNE or CNS. Is there a way to be transfered to these bases in the future? Do MAM or QF even have a CNS base?

I have been invited to an assessment day next week in Melbourne (via text msg) and after you have the selected the date you're able to attend, it takes you to the next page where you fill out your registration details for the day.

It asks for the 'user code' you were supplied with.....umm?? Where do you get this from?

I haven't received any code

Thanks indamiddle

royboy78, I applied through their website and the code for the hogan test was in the invite they sent me. I didn't even know they could invite you by sms. Perhaps you should email them for a link.

No MAM casuals in the CNS base at the moment but who knows, this may change in the future.

Hi RoyBoy78

Well the way it's supposed to work from my experience is:

1. You lodge an application on mam.net.au
2. They EMAIL you an invite to the recruitment day and provide you with a link (www.mybookingmanager.com/mam) to book yourself in to your chosen VRD (currently only for bases in Perth [which have now all finished], Sydney and Melbourne). In this particular email you are given a UNIQUE CODE which they tell you that you have to input on the form for when you book your VRD; It is also explained that unless you input that particular code into the top box on the form saying ('CODE': 'that you were supplied with'), you aren't eligible to attend any MAM VRD.
3. After you book a place in you get a VRD Attendance Confirmation containing all the details you supplies them with, your registration ID and a Hogan ID, which they provide a separate link and rego info for, for you to fill out.
4. You should also get another email detailing the venue for the VRD - mine on Friday 23rd is at the Novotel Brighton-le-Sands.

Let me know if I could help you anymore - however the text does sound a bit strange though. You could always email them at [email protected]or better yet give them a call on (03)93260825.

Let me know how you go...

Good luck!

Hi,

I have applied for MAM, and I am also booked in for the recruitment day on Fri 23rd. I am so nervous. I don't know what to expect.

Does anyone know what sort of questions would be asked? And what group activities are carried out through the day?

I am also wondering about pay during training, and the pay once flying?

If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Much appreciated.

Look forward to seeing everyone that is attending the recruitment day tomorrow.
Goodluck everyone! Who know's, maybe we will be flying together one day soon.

Hey spawn008

I think it should be alright because MAM after all is a seprate entity and company to QANTAS or QCCA, to be exact.

If you work for MAM, you don't work for QANTAS, as you're working for a company that is supplying cabin crew for QANTAS (QF is basically outsourcing CC from MAM, like every other part of this wholesome 'Australian' company).

So go ahead and apply and see where it'll take you, but I hope you get the job with QCCA - alot better conditions.

All the best

Average wage per week/fortnight (after tax)

I'm attending the MEL assessment day next Thurday 29 May.

Does anyone know (heard of) the average pay per week/fortnight after tax for MAM cabin crew....the ones that don't do all the Asia trips due to no 2nd language.

Again, the average pay, not the worse case scenario - including daily travel allowance etc.

Hi, it's great to find this thread as I have heaps of questions and would love to know more about the recruitment process and the job itself.

I'm going to apply to MAM and also QCCA, but not until later in the year. Does anyone know if they'll still be recruiting then?

Also, I don't have a second language, does this mean I can only work on domestic flights?

Good luck to everyone who is applying at the moment

MAM are casual contract crew who operate for the most part domestic flying.

QCCA are full time Qantas crew who operate for the most part internationally.

If you want to fly for either the sooner you apply for and get the job the better.

Thanks for your reply. I'm at university until early November so I couldn't start until mid-November. However, having read some of the posts in this thread and others I get the impression that the recruitment process is fairly lengthy, so I was trying to gauge when I should apply. I'm going to do my senior first aid and resp service of alcohol in the next few weeks, so I'll have everything ready...I guess I'll just have to wait and hope they're still recruiting in Sept-Oct.

Yep, sound judgement.

Finish your uni degree first and as you say see how things pan out.

We've lots of new aircraft coming [A380, 787] . A large number will replace aircraft that are past their use by date but baring a world wide economic down turn recruitment looks pretty bright for the future.

Mam Recruitment Day

Hello all

I am one of the desperate unfortunate ones who never makes it past group stage!!!! I am going to tell you what happens on MAM Assessment DAY, atleast some can benefit!!!

Only a handful turned up on the assessment day. Three tables and varied age groups. Intro given. Group scenario regarding a magic potion in the Amazon. As you know no right or wrong answers. How well you interact and embrace your group. Second scenario is coming up with a perfume for qantas premium class - name, color packaging etc. You break for lunch and get that SMS. If you are successful you go to panel stage. Which i was not fortunate to get. Inside info was all to do with customer service behabvioural type questions.

Good luck to everybody. I am doing something wrong here, i have attended so many times and fail to impress the panel. I wonder why? sorry to sound so pathetic......xxx
