Can you explain a little more

Hi WeLieInTheShadows. I am due to start the WW temp contract and am gutted that I missed the perm LHR EF position now being advertised as I applied for this in Jan. I asked Recruitment if I could change or re-apply but the response was that the company is desperate for crew on WW and there is no way this can happen.

Are you currently working for BA and know this view from 'insider' knowledge as it were? What do you think the chances are of being kept on on EF LHR?

Also, if after 6 months on the WW temp contract and a perm EF LHR contract came up could someone apply for that position??? It is so frustrating and confusing!

Anyone else have any ideas. I'm thinking about Qantas LH???

Many thanks in advance.

LHR WW temps

Welieintheshadows, What a real shame if we are 'out' after the 11 months. Obviously we are aware that there is a chance that it will happen but what a waste of trained staff they will have invested time and money in. They continue to search for new people quite a few times over the past few months, it would seem strange if they would not utilise us after our contacts end. Obviously that will all depend if they are still short of staff I suppose. Just my opinion though.. Anna

WW Temps

Hi Anna

I know what you mean, it doesn't make any sense to recruit, train and then say goodbye? I know those who accepted did so with the knowledge that it was an actual temp contract it's just the uncertainty and motivation to gain a permanent contract is so frustrating particularly as they are now offering the EF LHR perm contracts having advertised for LGW, LHR WW temp and now EF perm!

I would be very surprised if they got rid of the 11 month temps at the end of the contract. It seems like hiring the temps is a simple way to plug shortfall in Worldwide crew numbers until sufficent permanent people from Eurofleet can be moved across. It also gives BA the added flexibility that should suddenly they need to reduce crew numbers they can easily by finishing the temps. Very unlikely I know but always an option.

Anna,

With BA one never truly knows but it would be very sensible on your behalf to take heed of what Welieintheshadows says. He has been at BA for quite a while and is involved in quite a few aspects of IFS, so if anyone has an inclination of the possible future for BA he would be the one to talk too.

All I can say is, have fun on WW, you have an opportunity that not many will ever get. Enjoy it while it lasts because in all probability, if we follow the company line as such, you will be out the door when your contract finishes. There are very many reasonings behind why you guys, temps, are being employed and believe it or not but it is actually more cost effective to work you up to 900hrs and let you go than it will be to keep you on.

I hope on your behalf circumstances might change but please do not think that any of us that work for BA matter in the slightest. The sooner you realise you are a number, and a dispensable one at that, the better, and I include myself in that. I wish you all the best and please do not think I am trying to get you or any of the guys going to WW down I am merely telling you not to expect any logic from BA. If the opportunity arises at the end of your contract to stay on, good for you. Grab it, it won't be WW but you could always work your way back to WW if you so choose.

Once you get in the door and online you will find that there is a tremendous amount of information available if you look in the right places and ask the right people. You will find out soon enough.

Welcome to BA

Uniform..

I had my fitting this morning. Trousers and jackets need adjustments. So I did not get to take anything home. Got my staff number too. I was very pleased with the girl who dealt with me. She took all her time as I was hoping. Anna how did yours go? I chatted to someone who is on the 24 March WW course.

Superboy

We will just have to see what happens. I am not banking on staying on after the 11 months and appeciate there may be logic behind what BA are doing. Like you say just enjoy the 11 months and take everyday as it comes. I will work hard, do my job to the absolute best of my ability and absorb everything I can in this period and just hope for the best !!

Cheers Anna

Salary

Has anyone noticed that the basic salary for EF has gone up by almost a grand.

When I applied last May the basic was 10.500 more or less, the new advert on BA.com states the basic is just under 11.500.

Will this pay rise be paid to all CC or just the new contracts???

Applying for BA

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how long it took for an interview or rejection time from point of sending application? I sent mine on Monday and am still waiting, I used to fly for BA but took a year off, hopefully that won't affect me too much. Any pointers in time frames would be appreciated.

Disclosure Scotland for NON UK resident

Hi,

Just got on line to apply for disclosure scotland and realized tha NON UK resident cannot apply on line and they need to request a paper form which can only be sent 2nd class.
I will be starting my couse on 17th of march and I am worried that thing won't be sorted on sorted on time....If I only knew this beforehhand I would have obviously applied before ....just thought it would have taken 5 minutes and now I might have to wait 10 days or more just to get the form. Once I'll receive it they won't accept me to fax it back to them as they need the original before they start processing anything....

How did you -NON uk resident - go about it?

Disclosure Non UK residents

Hello Christin,

The best option, the one i did, is to put an address in the UK as your current address. I put the last address i was living in since I still got letters to my name in that address. If you have lived in the UK put that address and try to give them one where you still have letters delivered to. I think this is the simplest option for us. Good luck and see you at Cranebank !

I had no trouble applying for the criminal record check even despite that fact I was not a non UK resident at the time. British Airways asks you to give their address for the form to be sent to. Follow the instructions in the email and you will be fine.

Hi,

I did follow the instructions and gave BA as my current address, however the system didn't let me go through becouse I did answer YES when asked if I wanted the certificate to be sent to my employer (if choose YES then you are asked your employer details). Even Disclosure Scotland help line couldn't understand why that was happening...

So for future reference when asked the above question the answer must be NO.

Now it's all sorted thanks god!

disclosure..

Christin,
You should not have checked YES for it to be sent to yr employer. You should choose yr home address and then put down the address and date BA gave you in your job offer email. And later in the address history, then put yr current address and any other addresses from the last 5 years I think or 10 years ,whatever.
