GA in the North East of England

Hi all,

Just wondering why there's a lack of ga / air taxi / private charter in the North East of England? Both Durham Tees Valley (Teesside International) & Newcastle lack in based GA when it comes to a/c above PA34 size compared to other parts of the country.

People say that when it comes to GA the companies will go where the clients want & therefore airports can't control growth in this area, yet when Multiflight built their big hangar at Leeds that airports GA traffic grew practically overnight?

When Northern Aviation were alive their Beech 200 aircraft were in constant demand, surely there's an obvious gap in the market to be filled here?

So it would 'seem', and certainly having lived in the millionaires' triangle in cheshire for a while - no I am not part of that brotherhood unfortunately - there was a NEA of course but sadly gone. I suppose there are bits and bobs around but nothing like the south, but I agree if somone could get a plane, pretty lady (or laddette) A telephone book and four walls to cold call, and go door knocking around factory industrial estates (as I used to in a former life) when you need some fresh air - some good old fashioned prospecting then perhaps the spark could be re-lit up here! - heck maybe I should - wait where's my hat!

Not that difficult to position an aircraft to these Northern "outposts" if needed, and not a huge amount extra to the cost.

Aircraft based at Liverpool, Chester and Glasgow would be decent options for most.

Don't forget that these regions are probably now better served by scheduled carriers to more destinations than a few years ago.

I do think that if there were money to be made, someone would be doing it already. Lots of reputable companies have gone under trying.

You have missed one simple point about basing small aircraft in the North of England or Scotland. This is that they do not have enough useful legal range or payload. The few extra miles north makes quite a difference when going to Europe.
