Gaining a FAA ATP asap!
Hi Guys. I need a bit of advice on trying to gain a FAA ATP. I'm about to do a Falcon 2000 easy rating at FSI Teterboro on my JAA CPL. I also have a FAA PPL and want to be able to upgrade it to a CPL or ATP so then I'll be able to fly on the G & N register. I have the requirements to unfreeze my JAA ATPL and I'm hoping to sort this out at the same time. FSI seem a bit confused on how to go about this and I was hoping that some of you guys would have some advice for me.
I have been told that all I need to do is to sit the ATP theory then the checkride in the sim. Not sure that it's as simple as that so help is needed!!

That's easy
I did it 3 months ago at FSI Wichita during my C560 XL type rating.
First you need to validate your foreign CPL in FAA:
Airmen Certification: Verify the Authenticity of a Foreign License, Rating, or Medical Certification
It usually takes about 2 months.
Then you need to pass FAA ATP written test. I passed it at FSI Le Bourget. 1300 questions to learn (strongly recommend Gleim books). Piece of cake comparing to JAA ATPL.
Last part is to coordinate with FSI your ATP checkride with Type Rating checkride, to do it at the same time. Shouldn't be a problem.

Question for yogibaboo. Did you have a FAA PPL to start with or did you use your JAA license to gain a FAA license because I've been told that I don't need to have a verification from the CAA because I'm not using my JAA to gain a FAA.

I did my FAA ATP, based on my JAA ATP together with my type rating.
Since you've only the FAA PPL, you will need to verify your JAA Licence with the FAA Verification Branch, then doing the written test and the checkride in the Simulator.
Verification takes around 2months, depending on your CAA. Mine screwed it up the first time and i managed it the second time after 3months. The verification of the FAA is the valid for 180days.
I also had to show up at the FSDO with my logbook, as they needed to check if my flighttime fulfills the FAA requirements.

Im not sure you can have a clean FAA ATP issued without having a ICAO issued ATPL already, whilst you meet the requirement for a JAA ATPL it might end up chicken and egg

Anyone know which UK CAA form to use to get them to certify the validity of the UK ATPL to the FAA? The FAA site says UK applicants must first complete this form direct to the CAA, before contactng the FAA.
I can't find a relevant form on the CAA website anywhere.

Beachman, Great info! I can't seem to find any list of fees for the CAA on their website and I need to get this form off to them.
Does anyone know the exact amount for the verification process so I can fax these forms off!

Reading the forms, it looks like the FAA want you to contact the CAA first, and the CAA want you to contact the FAA first!
So I guess its best just to send both forms simultaneously

Ok guys, one more option to run past you lot. Instead of having to wait up to 90 days, would it not be quicker to sit a FAA CPL & IR theory test and then do the checkride in the sim on the falcon?
I'll ask the FSDO on monday, but its the weekend at the mo and there is a wealth of knowledge here to pick at!

You can't do CPL at FSI. They are authorised just for ATP. I tried to get CPL at FSI few years ago and they told me that is impossible.
Regarding to oral test before checkride it depends on examiner. Mine was easy.

You have totally missed my point with respect to UK applicants. The CAA form states

G-SPOT's and Yogibaboo correct on the CPL issue at FSI. It's a definite no no. So now it's playing the waiting game with the FAA and CAA verification circus.
Now I'm fully informed of the can and can't do's I'd just like to say a big thanks to everyone who posted replies to my questions. Nice one!!!

Non US Nationals/Citizens obtaining FAA rating.
I recently did a JAA ATPL and FAA ATPL (April 2010). In addition to everything mentioned below, I also needed to get AFSP (Alien Flight School Program) authorisation from the FAA before starting the training as I'm not a US citizen or national getting an FAA rating. You may fall into the same criteria.

"Persons seeking flight training must submit a request if they are not citizens or nationals of the U.S. and:
They wish to receive flight training in the U.S. or its territories, regardless of whether training will lead to an FAA certificate or type rating;
and/or
They wish to receive flight training from an FAA-certificated facility, provider, or instructor that could lead to an FAA rating whether in the U.S. or abroad."
Once you have TSA confirmation that TSA has accepted your documentation (it took 12 days for me), then you need to get pay to fingerprinted and get this part approved by TSA. Fingerprint sites are shown at TSC
The email from TSA was clear that training wasn't permitted until all the above had been completed. Authorisation took 5 days from the time the fingerprints were received by TSA.
Your training provider will need to provide some information for the initial completion of the TSA/AFSP application.

Thanks Malc, but I'm in Teterboro doing the 2000easy initial. The paperwork was painless in the end apart from having to pay the CAA £42 to answer an email from the FAA. Thieving CTs!!!!
