So I would suggest Alaska.

Not Alaska, I'm afraid. Try a different continent, and a different climate.
As mentioned, this is a historically significant locality, although the airfield is neither very old nor massively busy, despite a fair number of tourists making their way there.

Europe then? Fatima?

REALLY! listening to Australians I thought the Blue Mountains were almost as high as the Himalaya.

Right peninsula, wrong country :)
The locality served by the airfield first became historically significant in an earlier period of history than did Fatima. The quite inspiring, if tragic, personage whom the airfield is named after, though, entered history in the 20th century.

Grenada Frederico Garcia Lorca Airport. I knew I'd seen it somewhere.

I was there on my honeymoon!

Got it in one, ea200. Named after a major historical, artistic, and political / politicised figure in Federico Garcia Lorca, the poet murdered by Falangists in 1936. And of course the city of Granada was one of the main centres of Moorish Spain.
Not a particularly historic airfield though - it only opened in the 1960's or 70's I believe. The photo isn't too historic either, I took it from the Malaga - Jaen bus a couple of Tuesdays ago :)
Over to you...

Give this one a try.

chevvron 13th Mar 2023 08:30

Somewhere in the Aleutians.

India Four Two 13th Mar 2023 08:51

I think somewhere in the tropics, probably Africa.

Asturias56 13th Mar 2023 09:12

N Australia is possible with those colours

Corunna Downs in Western Australia.

As a boy pilot in the 1960's, I used to fly into here. The revetments with their high earth walls (big enough to accommodate a B-24) were truly impressive, although they've now degraded considerably.

OH if correct.

chimbu warrior 14th Mar 2023 08:03

Unsurprisingly, Dora-9 is correct.

Three of those enormous revetments are visible in the background here.

Just confirming, it's OH.
