meleagertoo,

Yes, you could easily have an F-16 on your wing if you weren’t careful!

I’ve seen this one-of-a-kind aircraft. It’s equally bizarre from behind!

Ditto the above.

I visited Mojave some 20 odd years ago but don't remember seeing it if it lived outside. Try and remember to confirm the i/d in about 11 hours time!

It was outside when I saw it in 2015:

The Sawyer Skyjacker indeed...

I guess Noyade named it though allusions and illustrations preceded the accusation!

I enjoyed your road trip threads I42! I can't remember anything particularly unusual visible at Mojave the day I went - it was a Sunday - my particular interest was the C-133s on the far side. We were en-route Reno - Los Angeles having driven down the Owens Valley and also popped into Inyokern (B-29 "Doc" was a surprise having been recently hauled out of China Lake), Fox Field and Palmdale to see what was about...

Control goes to Simon - I only added a little extra info.
Cheers.

Noyade,

Thanks but I wasn't expecting that. I can't find my stashed photo so OH.

Could be any one of hundreds!

Asturias56 10th Jul 2022 08:05

Asturias56 10th Jul 2022 19:55

Name it properly and it's all yours.............................

Only one company could ever afflict a nice looking aeroplane with an empennage as ghastly as that, so it is immediately obvious as a Mooney.

Bizarre and bizarrer! It didn't take long to find that although there are several photos of this listed as a Twin Navion it initially appears more likely to be a Mooney M22. But no! The several pics of this labelled M22 are incorrect!

Then it turns out that the M22 is a single engined pressurised version of the M20 and it isn't that at all. The internet fibs like a cheap chinese watch!

And then I find it's actually (I think) called a Twin Mooney Mk22. At least, that's the most convincing of the various conflicting answers I've dug up!

I'll go withTwin Mooney Mk22. A one off. Reg N5299B

Just to confirm that Treadigraph got it one with the CAB GY20 Minivan - a lot still around - mainly in their UK reincarnation I believe

Cheers Asturias, yes a nice little aeroplane, always used to be a few at PFA rallies I attended.

Re the newest pic, me lips is sealed for another 12 hours...

treadigraph 11th Jul 2022 21:10

Meleagertoo has it with the "original" Mooney M22 - a one off attempt at a twin in the late 1950s.

The single Mooney M22 Mustang came a few years later and was pressurised - I recall seeing a Swiss example at Biggin once, only 39 were built. Think the M20s generally look pretty nice, the M22 was a bit agricultural though.
