It’s a Scottish aviation pioneer…

.... and their next design was a twin!

Gibson Caledonia No.2 biplane.

Correct, Beagle you have control.
Nearly 1st aeroplane in Scotland, inspired by Farman. Happy Hogmanay https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....1cf020d476.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....ef349fe944.jpg |

Props look like they might make a bit of noise . Same tips as the Thunderscreech .
|
No tail seen, but most likely Robert Esnault-Pelteria's REP. No2 -Bis?
https://av8rblog.wordpress.com/2016/...e-p-monoplane/ REP II Here's the REP.1... https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....db3916ed45.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....606d229c9c.jpg |
Strewth! I thought something as esoteric as that would last a bit longer!
Noyade's back in business. |
Its often the boring US identikit private aircraft that last a long time on here - the really weird tend to stick in people's memories

Something different then... https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....53f003e1f7.jpg |
I have a dozen REALLY boring possibilities but to the challenge
American? |
Interesting.
Other than the engine exhausts could be a Varsity!!
|
Quite a tubby fuselage.................
|
Not from the US.
Not a Varsity. Wiki says only one built. Soviet engines. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....7b7935d0ad.jpg |
Warsaw pact country?
|
Not a Warsaw pact country.
|
Possibly Chinese....or S American....?
|
|
|
Gawd! I'm still struggling - to construct a google query................... but my 1960-61 Janes refers to a "Yungari Nokadaun" without any drawings or pictures. Googling that suggests it might be the challenge
|
|
There`s even a Harrier in that yard, wherever it is...
|
The twin is the Beijing-1, which is preserved at the Beijing Aviation Museum. As is Harrier GR3 XZ965!
|
https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/thr...e-1950s.37840/
lists a herd of one-off small Chinese aircraft of that era |

BAC 221?
|
Zaxis well done! It was indeed the BAC 221!
You have control! |
So I bag another 1960's British research aircraft! Roll on the H126 and HP115.
Converted from Fairey FD2 but something has always bugged me. Why did they convert WG774 which had held to world speed record, first over 1000 mph, in 1956 and not the near identical non record holding WG777? Not many countries would deliberately destroy the originality of such a national icon. Anyone any idea why? https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....6376161069.jpg For the next challenge I'll offer this ... https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....18c3966123.jpg |
Tu-91 Bychok
WG774 had a more powerful engine than WG777, so perhaps that was the reason? |
Zaxis; I agree with you. I spend quite a bit of time in proximity to 777, and have the same question (although BEagle may have answered it). My guess is Philistines working in an office somewhere.
