Good skills, Skytrain!

Yes, this is part of an aircraft (one that only concerns itself with the troposphere!).

Looking at

an engine?
Mmmm, not sure quite how to answer that... :8

If it's not on a pylon then by definition it must be integral
Mmmm, not quite sure what I think about that, either, in this context!

Not being obstructive - you'll understand my answers when things slot into place. ;)

I did toy with this idea yesterday. Spaceship One

TheiC 7th Feb 2012 19:29

Sorry, Harley, you're thinking along the wrong lines there.

I'll try to answer Skytrain a little better:

Part of the image shows part of an engine. An engineer would tell you that the whole thing is not an engine.

Astazou to you tooo.... off a Wetdream or a Gazelle...OH if correct...

TheiC 7th Feb 2012 19:48

Gesundheit!

Sycamore has it... :ok:

...the intake and reduction gearbox on an Astazou (on a Jetstream, as it happens).

You can see one in situ about half-way down this page of smashing photos: Latest News

Open House is declared.

OK, I'm struggling to reconcile the sharply swept fairing centre left of the challenge, could you show the uncropped image please?

TheiC 7th Feb 2012 20:17

This should help:

I didn't get to know the aircraft well enough to find out the purpose of the fairing; thinking about it, it probably carries the harness for the propeller deicing. There's one on each engine in the one o'clock position (viewed from the rear).

Harley Quinn 7th Feb 2012 20:19

Brilliant, thank you, I can see it is the reduction gearbox now.

Harley Quinn 8th Feb 2012 18:57

Is this the cooling intake for a de Havilland inverted engine or an outlet for an exhaust?

Noyade 8th Feb 2012 19:14

Evening Harley.

It's the outlet for a ducted fan.
Japanese motor-glider.

(Found it while looking for Ken's motor-glider on SC)

Harley Quinn 8th Feb 2012 19:41

Thought that one was supposed to be Argentinian?

Noyade 8th Feb 2012 19:45

I'm was searching for motor-gliders in general.

Thought that one was supposed to be Argentinian?
Yes, if you find it, let me know.... :)

Mine above is Japanese.
