G'day Graeme,
Sorry mate; I didn't get a chance to look at your last one and nobody else did either, it obviously sucks mate :p! On the other hand, this one exhausts gases ;) http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...allenge033.gif |
Ant-29/DIP?
|
That's the one SD:D!
The Tupolev ANT-29 DIP (Dvukhmotorny Istrebitel Pushechny, or twin-engined cannon fighter) Actually it's the exhaust for the 102mm Kurchevski DRP, a recoilless gun of 4.00m length, discharged through a steel tube projecting from the rear of the fuselage beneath the rudder! [quote-=] The project was abandoned after a loss of interest in Kurchevski's recoilless guns for which the ANT-29 had been designed. These had suffered repeated failures leading to Kurchevski's arrest and subsequent disappearance. [/quote] Well, my challenge didn't fare much better then the gun's designer who fell foul of "Uncle Joe's" displeasure! Sabredog has control :ok: |
Thank you,SinoTC.
The Ant-29 appears to be the flavour of day!! I am afraid it must be; Open House |
Thank you,SinoTC. The Ant-29 appears to be the flavour of day!! Sabredog has requested an Open House :ok: |
|
Apologies,SincoTC, for the typo. Quite unintentional.
Sabredog |
No prob's SD 'tiz easy done :ok:
Edit; Evening Graeme, I'd say that the airframe looks like a Bell P-39 Airacobra, but dunno what that "thingy" is , it looks too constricted to be a cooler/filter intake and that looks like an exhaust pipe at the rear so maybe an early rocket launcher pod? No time to look further now, maybe someone else can ID the variant properly and I'd have to call an OH anyway as I don't know when I can get back today! |
Bell P-39 Airacobra Trevor has requested Open House.... http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/5141/img404z.jpg |
Thanks Graeme,
I see you kick-started the WoNZ quiz after 17 days on OH :ok: Back at home now, connection a bit slow, but I'll give it a crack! http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...allenge034.jpg |
Looks like it may be a single row P&W Wasp series, looks fuselage mounted; is that the base of the windscreen with asemi-circular fresh air intake at the top of the pic?
|
Evening Kitbag,
Your observations are all correct, this was its third engine 420HP fitted in 1939 |
Evening TC,
Fokker F.VIIa it looks to be. :) http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...08/1622673.jpg I recall seeing it in Aviaquiz awhile ago. |
Fokker F.VIIa it looks to be. :) |
Thanks Noyade :ok:,
This one has been lingering in my bucket too long.. I keep running into it looking for other stuff; http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...008/99-1-1.jpg |
Sorry guys, I went to bed at midnight 'coz I had another 4am start!
Thanks for the confirmation Graeme, it was indeed the Ex Swissair Fokker F-VIIa HB-LBO as offered by Karlark :ok: Well done Karl, can't stop to chase yours down at tme moment, work beckons :( |
Either a hoofing big rear gun, or a test installation. Looks like it could be one of the early centrifugal compressor jets; Russian?
|
B-24 used as a test bed for a GE jet engine in 1946.
If correct, Open House. |
Sabredog, that is truly excellent work. :ok: I had absolutely no idea other than it looked 'wrong'.
I'd like to confirm your kill and extend the open house, as you requested, I'm sure Karlark and others would agree. :) http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/4283/indexzxe.jpg |
