The one-off Welkin.

If only to get some clue in response......Fiat G.59 ???
|
I think LM has probably got it with the Welkin, specifically a special equipped with RM16SM Merlins fitted with "Beard Radiators"
It looks rather like Graeme's photo on the bottom left of this preview: Aeroplane | See Inside Page 79 | August 2011 | Zinio Digital Magazines & Books |
Welkin. Your control LM. |
|
I think it's a Turbomeca Astazou, but I don't know the aircraft type.
|
It is indeed a Turboméca Astazou.

Avro Lancaster with rear mounted Metrovick jet

Afternoon one11,
You have it :D It is the Lancaster MkII (LL735) being used to test the Metropolitan-Vickers F2/4 "Beryl" engine. Development of the F.2 continued on a version using a ten-stage compressor for additional airflow. The new F.2/4 - the Beryl - initially developed 3,250 lbf (14.45 kN) and was test flown in Avro Lancaster Mk.II s/n LL735 before being installed in the Saunders-Roe SR.A/1 flying boat fighter. Thrust had already improved to 3,850 lbf (17.1 kN) for the third prototype, and eventually settled at 4,000 lbf (17.8 kN). In comparison, the Derwent developed 10.9 kN in its ultimate form; making the Beryl one of the most powerful engines of the era. Development of the SR.A/1 ended in 1947, ending development of the Beryl along with it. Nevertheless a Beryl from the SR.A/1 prototype was removed and used by Donald Campbell in his famous 1955 Bluebird K7 hydroplane in which he set seven water speed records between 1955 and 1964. 300 Lancaster IIs were built with 1,650 hp Bristol Hercules VI radial engines |
Afternoon SincoTc and thanks for the welcome on re-entry....

Evening one11, you're welcome for the welcome :)
Hmm; interesting photograph , I can't find the photo based on what I think it is; so that probably means it isn't !! Based on the forward line of the props to where the cockpit appears to be and the distance between the engines, it's not a Beaufighter 'coz they're not Hercules, they look like they may be Perseus, so is it the Cunliffe-Owen O.A.1 Aka "Flying-wing" ?? |
Correct engine and airframe, Cunliffe Owen ( or British Burnelli) OA.1. Control back to SincoTC
