Did your holiday go near Gap?
I'll answer if you tell me where Gap is :)
Gap Tallard Aerodrome en France. Simple guess due to hills and Porters, but perhaps too much grass.
Ah non monsieur.
This holiday didn't go past that location, although we did go through France to and from our final destination.. |
All three aircraft look to be Swiss-made. Could it be in that fair country? If it is, I'll get my maps out...
How about Bex?
jensdad has narrowed down the country, but it isn't Bex.
Bex is around 130 miles away by road from the target airfield.
The ORIS PC-7 is based (or at least shown on several photos) in Locarno?
Yeah, I reckon SLB has it with Locarno. I went past there on a train (or was it a bus?) a few years ago. The vegetation definitely has a south-side-of-the-Alps look about it as well.
You'd reckon correctly. It is Locarno. Well done SLB.
We stayed at the Arcadia hotel in Locarno for a night on the way back from Italy. I have never experienced a swimming pool as clean as the one at the hotel. It was fantastic. So much so, that we stopped again the following year on the way to Slovenia, and this time it was the filthiest pool at any hotel we have stayed in, and was such as disappointment. I've come across a few more holiday airfield images during my sort out of my images over the lockdown. |
Gee, wasn’t expecting that Locarno would be right as I could not find the hangar/garage building with an A as shown on your photo.
Ok now one that I have never visited by air, but I must have been real close next to It. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....9a7b0dbee.jpeg |
SLB - on Google Earth go to streetview where it shows the Para Centro Locarno, then go a little south on the main road. Just past the hedge, look right, and there's the building.

Walt Disney World Stolport, Florida?
(that large edifice - Contemporary Tower - in background gives it away) OH if correct. 'ZG |

That is an older shot of the terminal at Brunei (WBSB). Open house.

CW - open house |
As that kind of terrain could be almost anywhere, I suppose a hint is in order.
Slave Trade |
Is it Mahon?
It's an island about the same size (area) as Menorca. More tropical location than Menorca but much fewer residents.
Malabo perhaps?
Not Malabo -- but, by a very strange coincidence, this airport is exaclty the same discance from both Malabo and Mahon.
Must be the Caribbean then? I was thinking somewhere in Cape Verde but unless there's a bit of distortion on my map that country is all closer to Malabo than Mahon. Fort de France?
Hi jensdad. I'd suggest you go back to Cape Verde and re-measure those distances . . . ;)
Edit: I double checked on Google Earth and the difference between the distance from Mahon to this airport, and Malabo to this airport, is less than 1 nautical mile. |
Ahha. Is it Sal? If it isn't I'll let someone else have a go.
Oops. It would appear to be the other one... The one that has the same name as a football team from Oporto.
Oh OK then. Boa Vista. I have nothing handy so if I'm right it's Casa Aberta. :) |
Correct! Aeroporto Aristides Pereira, Boa Vista, Cabo Verde. Bom trabalho, jensdad!
Casa Aberta indeed |
Just to clarify for our non-Portuguese speaking friends -- it's Open House. :ok:
I don't often post on here as I usually can't identify the aerodromes offered and have very few suitable photos of my own anyway. How about this one though? Where and when?
