Something from Timm???

Ridge Runner 26th Apr 2012 10:56

Fairchild PT-19?

SincoTC 26th Apr 2012 11:07

Hi Martin,

Not from Timm or Fairchild; but you're in the right country :)

Lightning Mate 26th Apr 2012 12:24

'Artnoon TC.

I believe it's periscope
Could it possibly be a camera?

SincoTC 26th Apr 2012 12:33

'Artnoon LM,

I suppose it could be a camera, but I've always understood that it and others like it on Primary Trainers of that period were periscopes.

Karlark's guess was pretty close, a one off, very similar or the same in all aspects except for the material used in its construction :)

VX275 26th Apr 2012 12:33

Is it just me or is that ET in the front cockpit? :)

SincoTC 26th Apr 2012 12:35

Not ET VX; the crew did appear in the original photo, but they were eliminated in the silhouetting process :E

It was taken on the ground BTW!

Lightning Mate 26th Apr 2012 13:16

North American NA-35 ?

Ridge Runner 26th Apr 2012 13:24

I don't think the tail's right, David

Lightning Mate 26th Apr 2012 13:27

Got any better ideas then Martin? :\

Ridge Runner 26th Apr 2012 13:34

er .... nope ...... :(

SincoTC 26th Apr 2012 13:37

C'mon guys,

Wots all the delay!! SD offered the NA-35 yesterday and I said no when I answered you about the jobber between the cockpits.

It is in Aerofiles with the picture I used, so is Karlark's guess, both with the same code, I said they were very similar apart from material and his was moulded plywood, plus I'll tell you now that the engine was basically the same!

The clock is now ticking, will David or Martin get there first (or SD or a lurker maybe). Go to it gentlemen :ok:

Lightning Mate 26th Apr 2012 13:37

Can't see from the silhouette TC, but is the wing braced?

evansb 26th Apr 2012 13:40

Fleetwings Model 33 ?

SincoTC 26th Apr 2012 13:41

Not Braced LM,

The material was a departure from the norm for this company and not wood as I've already stated

Lightning Mate 26th Apr 2012 13:46

Franklin engine?

All metal construction?

SincoTC 26th Apr 2012 13:46

Yippee!! I see we have a winner, but not from the listed runners!

Well done Brian, it is the Fleetwings 33 :D

Fleetwings 33 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

evansb has control:ok:

Lightning Mate 26th Apr 2012 13:52

Blimey! I looked at that but in the picture I found the top of the fin has a much wider chord. :\

SincoTC 26th Apr 2012 13:56

I agree that there does seem to be a considerable difference in the tip chord of the fin between the Aerofiles and Wiki pictures, only one prototype built, so I guess it was modified in testing!

evansb 26th Apr 2012 13:58

Thanks. I found a matching vert stab Fleetwings 33 photo.

Here is the next silhouette:
