Sorry to miss your post, Graeme. No, it isn't that, as you've realised! :)

skytrain10 18th Oct 2011 13:29

Hi Martin....presume this is a WWII AOP/STOL aircraft, or are we looking at something a bit newer?

Ridge Runner 18th Oct 2011 13:32

Hi Ken,

WW2 - no - circa 1948/49
AOP - no
STOL - yes, of sorts

RR :E

Edit: er, and no, Ken, not from my recent magazine purchase! This one is on the web

RegDep 18th Oct 2011 13:43

Czech, RR?

Ridge Runner 18th Oct 2011 13:45

Not Czech, Reg

SincoTC 18th Oct 2011 14:35

Time still very limited, so it's a coffee time dash and go, sorry!!

Glider Tug ??

The other clues seem to fit the Rubik R-18 Kanya ??

Maybe not as I think there's a tail strut that should be visible at that angle, Open House if it is as I gotta go back to the workshop now :(

Ridge Runner 18th Oct 2011 14:41

I don't know how you do it, Trevor!!!!! Yes, the Kanya (Rubik) R-18 from Hungary.

Trevor has declared OPEN HOUSE

RR

RegDep 18th Oct 2011 15:21

One should always follow his intuition: Czech - Hungary but too lazy to check the main source:

His R-18 Kánya laison aircraft had won another design competition invited by the military. Two prototypes were built of this type with 105 and 160 Walter engines respectively. Due to its excellent low-speed flying capabilities this aircraft became an outstanding glider towing aeroplane and a series of 10 aircraft of the 105 HP variant were built for this purpose. At the ’50s these towing aircraft were refitted with 5 cylinder M-11 radial engines of 100 HP.

Thanks Martin, G'day Graeme :ok:

He's probably got a good memory...
Hmm maybe, but the short term memory's not so hot, I'd forgotten I got it last Jan :O, maybe there was a glimmer coz I did think it had been before and checked it on Mel's list but didn't find it, however, I only looked for Rubik!!

What I did remember, was looking for Richard's challenge a year earlier and finding the R-18 then, that wasn't the challenge, but the shape was logged in memory :) http://www.pprune.org/aviation-histo...lenge-445.html
