Karlark 14th Nov 2011 14:37

Ilyushin IL-6?

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 14:42

Il-8?
Not that one David....the IL-8 only had one engine!

Lightning Mate 14th Nov 2011 14:43

Sorry - just realised my typo.

Looks like a strike above...

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 14:44

Ilyushin IL-6?
That's the one Karl, powered by 2 x Charomskiy diesel engines:D

http://i551.photobucket.com/albums/i...r/e0ba0bd0.jpg

Back to you.

Karlark 14th Nov 2011 14:54

:ok:. Open house, please.

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 14:59

Ok Karl....David, as you were so close, have you got one ready to go?

Lightning Mate 14th Nov 2011 15:06

I have, but gozome shortly so won't be able to monitor for maybe an hour.

Lightning Mate 14th Nov 2011 15:15

OK Ken - one that's easy to find for you.

Back in an hour.

http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/u...9/wossis-5.jpg

Karlark 14th Nov 2011 15:51

Is that Barnaby Wainfan's FMX-4 Facetmobile?

Sorry, couldn't keep away, I should really get back to work. :8

Lightning Mate 14th Nov 2011 16:01

It is indeed. :ok:

Never mind work - put your green light back on because you have the thread!

Karlark 14th Nov 2011 16:25

Thanks LM. Just about lunchtime. Close enough. :)

Keeping with the insane theme... or should I say inane;

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...s_2008/53b.jpg

Hard to say if the silhouette is exact.

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 16:39

Alekseev SM-1?

Karlark 14th Nov 2011 16:49

That's the one. :ok:

Skytrain has control.

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 16:52

Thanks Karl, definitely falls into the weird and wonderful category:).

Talking of which:

http://i551.photobucket.com/albums/i...r/6fff390f.jpg

Lightning Mate 14th Nov 2011 17:19

I've seen it before.

It's the WTFO?

Obvious question - is it a disc or a sphere?

Karlark 14th Nov 2011 17:29

SA-60 Spherical Airship?

Lightning Mate 14th Nov 2011 18:00

Or the Stratellite?

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 18:06

Obvious question - is it a disc or a sphere?
Sphere

SA-60 Spherical Airship?
Not listed as that Karl but it does look very similar. Definitely a different manufacturer and a different country.

Or the Stratellite?
Not that either David

Noyade 14th Nov 2011 18:53

I've seen it before.
I saw this in a movie? Phantasm...

Phantasm (1979) - IMDb

It flies and can kill Ken?

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6...antasmball.jpg

:)

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 18:55

What I thought would be a straightforward challenge appears not to be. Karl has proposed the SA60, which I thought was the Sierra Nevada Corp SA60, but I am wondering if SA60 is just a generic name for the size of the airship.

To make life easier, just the name of the munufacturer will suffice as the manufturer has made a number of virtually identical models. This one dates from the 1990's and would appear to have undergone modifications over the years.

It flies and can kill Ken?
Morning Graeme and thanks for your kind comments:):), I think its safe to say my challenge can fly but is unlikely to kill, unless it inadvertently lands on you!

Noyade 14th Nov 2011 19:02

Evening Ken...:)

unless it inadvertently lands on you!
How big is it?
What's its purpose?
Remotely controlled UAV?

Is it happy?

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 19:23

How big is it?
What's its purpose?
Remotely controlled UAV?
All very good questions....

Size...small, I presume around 13ft in diameter (I'll try to confirm this!)
Purpose...test vehicle
Manned

Is it happy?
Probably not, it was replaced by bigger and presumably better models. Looks like it should have been in 2001:)

Edit, ignore the size....my theory blown apart....more like 40 ft in diameter!

Noyade 14th Nov 2011 19:28

What I thought would be a straightforward challenge appears not to be.
I don't think anything is straightforward in life mate....:(

Thirteen feet in diameter and it carries a man?! Inside? What's the propulsion system?

It is a sphere I think you said? That's not just the front view of something Zeppelin shaped?

And it's opaque?

http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/6...diumsphere.png

Lightning Mate 14th Nov 2011 19:32

Goggled "munufacturer" and "manufturer" spherical airships but...............................................:E:E

Can I have some mate?

Noyade 14th Nov 2011 19:37

Evening David!

Trevor has a spoilt dog. I have spoilt children and I now drive their lazy asses to school. Light will be on...but I am not here. Story of my life. Don't wait up...

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 19:37

Graeme, see my edit.....

Definitely a sphere. 2 props, no details on make.

The designer has produced several different spherical airships, as well as other shapes, including one particular large airship last year.

Karlark 14th Nov 2011 19:46

Still a little early for me to get into the nog.

The SPAS-4 is 13.1 meters in diameter. 21st Century Airships?

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 19:50

And it's opaque?
Sorry Graeme, missed that....not opaque, but it has windows:
http://i551.photobucket.com/albums/i...a3c247a1-1.jpg

Noyade 14th Nov 2011 19:51

Loading up the car with lazy asses....

...and then I thought of this...?

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/3969/img194.jpg

Lightning Mate 14th Nov 2011 19:51

....or even the SPAS 13.....

Lightning Mate 14th Nov 2011 19:53

Have a good day Graeme. :ok::\

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 19:53

21st Century Airships?
That'll do for me Karl:ok:. Designed by Hokan Colting who claims to have produced what was, at the time, the worlds largest airship last year.

http://i551.photobucket.com/albums/i...r/a3c247a1.jpg

Karlark has control.

Edit, sorry Graeme and David, but Karl was there first with the manufacturer (which was all I wanted). As for the model number I am not entirely clear whether it was the -4 or -13. If it was the -13 it was clearly modified, so I am assuming it was the SPAS-4.

Karlark 14th Nov 2011 19:59

Thanks Ken.

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i..._2008/54-3.jpg

I feel like I need to apologize for posting this one :)

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 20:16

A Santos-Dumont design?

Karlark 14th Nov 2011 20:19

:ok: No. 9 balloon. Have to run... Skytrain has control.

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 20:20

Cheers Karl....going to have to prep one so if anyone else has anything ready feel free to post:ok:

Noyade 14th Nov 2011 21:01

Back.

going to have to prep one
At your leisure mate. I'll see what you've created later. Goodnight. :)

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 21:10

Next one to consider:

http://i551.photobucket.com/albums/i...r/a12f28db.jpg

Noyade 14th Nov 2011 21:33

You just don't quit Ken! A silhouetting machine. :)

Must be late over there?

Quick stab before you collapse....Ruschmeyer R90?

skytrain10 14th Nov 2011 22:05

Ruschmeyer R90?
Not a Ruschmeyer Graeme

Must be late over there?
