Not from Bell. It is the front seat, and the only seat.

Spit161 9th Oct 2011 13:10

If it's what I think it is, it has tandem seating. Correct?

sycamore 9th Oct 2011 14:39

Updated K-Max..?

Spit161 9th Oct 2011 15:25

It looks like the new Sikorsky helicopter type thing.. However, that had tandem seating..

cheers,
Jake.

RegDep 9th Oct 2011 15:34

Could it be that this picture is of an aircraft with tandem seating for two, but the rear seat is loaded with test equipment for the first flight?

I can see that is a possibilty, but the OP said that it only had one seat, not tandem seating..

cheers,
Jake.

Sorry gents, I was mistaken. The mystery helicopter does indeed have 2 seats. RegDep's comment on test equipment in the back-seat is correct.

Sikorsky S-67 Blackhawk?

frontlefthamster 9th Oct 2011 17:30

An X2 mock-up?

Whatever it is, there's no excuse for such a shabby design... It looks like human factors nightmare - hardly appropriate to rotary flight, which in my limited experience is already more than bl##dy difficult enough! (I've hung up the Jetranger keys, and declared myself the loser!).

evansb 9th Oct 2011 18:20

It is not a mock-up. It is the cockpit of the Sikorsky X2 record-breaking 250-knot co-axial helicopter. frontlefthamster has control.

frontlefthamster 9th Oct 2011 18:27

Really, I think Spit161 (Jake) got there first...

So, OPEN HOUSE (Jake, what have you got to bring to the party?).

And I remain genuinely horrified that Sikorsky can design such a clever helicopter and give it such a badly-thought-out cockpit... What are their TPs saying about it?

sycamore 9th Oct 2011 19:53

Don`t know how they can claim a World Record as it is not a true helicopter; it is a Compound..!!!!

Spit161 9th Oct 2011 21:25

Hello all - it's going to have to be an open house I'm afraid - not going to be able to monitor any challenge tonight.
However, I'll chip in at the next OH.

Tu.114 10th Oct 2011 15:15

Seeing that it is open house - may I?

Ridge Runner 10th Oct 2011 16:18

The original IL-18????

Edit: if it is, OPEN HOUSE

Tu.114 10th Oct 2011 16:49

Seems like this one was easier than I thought... Ridge Runner, You are of course right; this is the flight deck of the original piston-engined airliner by the name of Il-18 that has nothing to do with the later, well-known turboprop.

Open house has been called.

Ridge Runner 10th Oct 2011 17:03

Thanks, mate. It was all the glazing and the russian-looking yoke... plus your forum name! ;)

evansb 10th Oct 2011 17:14

"Name the Plane" that goes with this mystery cockpit:

A flying boat, Brian????

evansb 10th Oct 2011 17:26

Not a flying boat.
