Colomban MC-30 Luciole?

Fitter2 23rd Sep 2010 12:31

Helo Mechta

you must have been at Sywell LAA rally too.

Over to you.

Mechta 23rd Sep 2010 12:53

Hello Fitter2,

No, I wasn't at Sywell, but I have been fascinated by the Luciole from the moment the first news of it filtered across from France around 2006. To be able to power an aeroplane with a small four stroke industrial engine seemed like the answer to a homebuilder's dream.

As soon as I saw that V-twin (Briggs & Stratton Vanguard or Honda), both have been used), I was pretty sure it was the Luciole. There is also the Czech SD-1 with the same engines, so I did need to do a search first.

Here's the next one:

Five years ago today I started this thread.
Never thought it would last this long !!

Clint.:ok:

norwich 28th Sep 2010 19:52

Mr Grubby. Thank you for starting this ! Please allow me to kick start the sixth year with this little photo ? it does not appear in Mels supurb listing, and I assume will not linger too long ??

Keith.

One of Mr Vans? RV8?

ozbeowulf 29th Sep 2010 02:58

I don't know what aircraft it is; but I love the warning decal above the artificial horizon...

Glenn

norwich 29th Sep 2010 06:51

Sorry not a Vans type ? Yes I like that advice sticker too ?

Keith.

Fitter2 29th Sep 2010 07:17

LH-10 Ellipse?

Edited to say, no, it can't be. How about a Rutan Long-Eze?

norwich 29th Sep 2010 18:16

Fitter2. Not a Rutan design either ?? But is closely related to the Long-EZ ?? just added this bit to ease any confusion ??

Keith.

norwich 30th Sep 2010 20:21

Well, after 1200 views and a couple of very well educated attempts, time for a small clueette ? This particular aircraft is based at my local airport .... Norwich (EGSH) (NWI) ... and actually landed in front of my eyes this afternoon ! propelled by its pusher propeller, with its winglets glistening in the late sun ?

Keith.

Kitbag 30th Sep 2010 20:52

Looks like a cozy arrangement in there

Fitter2 1st Oct 2010 21:16

Hello Norwich

Was Kitbag's subtle offering right or wrong? If wrong, another cluette maybe in order, but my assumption is that a pusher canard is pictured.

norwich 1st Oct 2010 21:35

Aha ! Mmmm .... I have been looking at Kitbags criptic question ?? and am finding it difficult to find a link ?? maybe just my limited knowledge ??

Fitter2 ... yes pusher and carnard are in there ... two seater ... one in front ... one behind ?? not the best of safety record ... and as of 1 second ago I have looked at G-INFO and, to my amazement !, found this to be the only UK based example of this aircraft ??

Keith.

Fitter2 2nd Oct 2010 06:36

Hi Kitbag

probably not a Cozy then, although there is only one Cozy Classic on G-INFO.

Further investigation necessary.

Kitbag 2nd Oct 2010 08:27

Stabbing very wildly- Berkut 360?

norwich 2nd Oct 2010 17:44

Douglas DC2 by the look of the yokes and pedestal.

evansb 4th Oct 2010 19:28

Yes, stevef, it is a KLM DC-2. Note the compass. You have control.

stevef 4th Oct 2010 21:40

Can't be many cockpit pictures not covered now!
I don't think this one's come up before:
Easy one, though.

evansb 8th Oct 2010 06:01

Clue: When carrying the mail, one of these ships was known as ZEPHIR.

India Four Two 8th Oct 2010 07:12

All four were "Aeolus," "Zephir," "Pampero" and "Zyklon"?

Do 18 diesel flying boat. Nice Popular Mechanics link here:

Popular Mechanics - Google Books

I didn't realize the engine had a dual-crankshaft with opposed pistons in the same cylinder.

Open house if correct.

evansb 8th Oct 2010 14:34

India Four Two is correct.:ok:

Best regards,

Bri

Kitbag 13th Oct 2010 20:35

Inspired by another thread, hope this gets people thinking:
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...it/WCP1012.jpg

Fitter2 13th Oct 2010 21:18

I'm guessing the cockpit shown is in Nevada, and the rest of the airframe is on a Predator in the 'stan.
