Norton, San Bernadino, California.

Close but no cigar.

George AFB Victorville army airfield, California
|
Right State, wrong airfield.
|
Is it Santa Anna, now John Wayne Airport?
|
Not Santa Ana, Pilgrim.
The airport is still in use, one of the original hangars in the photo survived until December 2007 when it was then demolished :{ . Perhaps this will help: http://www.godickson.com/Images/rbvn3.jpg Dam' fine picture, even if it doesn't ! |
Thanks for the clue, I'll guess at Chino.

Last try, Burbank. (film connection?)
|
Van Nuys Metropolitan
|
Archie has it :ok:.
Van Nuys aka San Fernando Valley aka L.A. Metropolitan. Not usually thought of as an Air Base, but used by many years by the AAF and then the CAL ANG who moved out because the runway was too short for their 'new' F-100s. (Casablanca was the film BTW) |
Thank you.
I don't have anything suitable to hand so it's Open House or as Captain Renault (left of screen) would have said - "Round up the usual suspects!" |
As it's Open House again an easy one which should last about 10 minutes!

Is it Northolt?
|
OK then, I think it may be a photo taken at Northolt by Edward Malindine for the Daily Herald on 4th March 1938 showing Hurricane 1's of 111 Squadron who had reequipped with them a couple of months previously from Gladiators.
It is possible that the second machine in the row, L1550, crashed at Colnbrook on the 14th July that year, killing the pilot. It is also possible that some people on this site have too much time on their hands! |
Duckbutt is right.
111 Sqn showing off their new Hurricane 1's at Northolt in 1938. Duckbutt - your turn. |
|
Somewhere in SEA, North Vietnam, Hanoi?
|
Right part of the world.
|
The airfield has not been used for over 60 years now and was built in the mid 1930's on the orders of uninvited 'guests' and initially used as a staging post for return journeys to cities in another country. Local labour was used who to say the least did not receive the minimum wage.
The aircraft shelters visible are reinforced and consequently survived. Since the field fell into disuse local farmers have cultivated the areas around them, as shown here: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...er/Puzz23a.jpg |
