Thank you descol. Cracking photo from the grand old days of Transatlantic flying.
Where's this, then? Another photo from my holidays. The two antennae aren't on top of the plane, btw, so that might help anyone who's been here.

Doubt it's Venice - it's as flat as a pancake for miles around the airport - but it might be Italy

Hi team. Sorry, been busy walking in the rain and photographing wildfowl today. The joys of a wet Sunday.
As thnarg kindly pointed out, it's not Italy, although not a million miles from there.
OK, it's on the Med, or one of its sub-divisions..
Another Italy-related clue will follow at lunchtime tomorrow if there are no winners.

Not Sardinia, no. The name by which this airfield, and locality, is known in English is actually the Italian name for it, although it has a different name in the native language. It has been ruled by Italy, and constituent parts of it, at various periods of its history, but it isn't now.

Nee, not Preveza.
So, where are we? I think I've given enough clues already, but here are the previous ones...
On the Mediterranean. (By that, I mean the lump of water that stretches from Lebanon to Gibraltar - I'm never quite sure where the sub-categories of the Med begin and end.)
In Europe.
Has a name in English that was originally given to it by Italians, or folks from a place that is now in Italy. The locals call it something else.
Has been governed by Italy, and/or some of the various bits that came together to form Italy in Garibaldi's time, on various occasions.
