There’s a bit of Miles about it but I’m sure it will be something else.

I'll go along with Miles. M.38 Messenger perhaps? The tail end might be a bit of a giveaway.

The glazed area behind the cockpit reminds me of the GA Cygnet.

The tail would give a clue. Whitney Straight or Monarch?

It is a General Aircraft GAL42 Cygnet.

Extra points for spotting that it's the prototype CW Aircraft (Chronander/Waddington) Cygnet, notable for its single fin and taildragger configuration, unlike its twin-fin, tricycle-gear GAL Cygnet successors.

It's almost 24 hours and I'm off out - yes it's the GA42 Cygnet in both it's manifestations.

Looks like Dook has the wheel......

Slight thread drift, but when operated by the RAF, the GA Cygnet (yes, a baby swan) becomes an owlet! I just cannot explain how it did that. Have an idea that the RAF also threw away the canopy to suit their own purposes (possibly being evaluated as a military trainer?)

I have got to say as a non UK/GMT member who has regularly read this and the which airport page, with the odd guess and win, the latest MOD's rules are totally spoiling what used to be really interesting pages!

They bought a few to check out crews on tricycle wheel aircraft as they'd bought a load of Havoc's I think from the USA - at eh time the RAF didn't operate anything with a nose wheel.

Dook has deleted the thread I believe but a copy still exists above in his reply to Quem - he has told me what it is and neither I nor sycamore are correct

I'll try and PM him
