I think it might be rather clumsy as it goes rushin' about
An ugly myasishchev vm-t Atlant I believe..................
I've no idea of the actual handling characteristics, but it was designed to stroll along very smoothly neverminding the terrain.
Not the Atlant.

It was a cloddish attempt by me to hint that I think I know what it is...
Well yes, it is the Antonov AN-14sh, the produce of brilliant minds under the influence of excessive amounts of vodka. The civilian version was An-714 with a bit different "undercarriage" setup.
Anyway, it was apparently rather difficult to handle on the ground and eventually, lo and behold, they found out that the cushion affected the aerodynamics as well...
Asturias was unknowingly correct in his statement, not very elegant piece of design indeed
Treadi did know what it was, me thinks, and Noyade brought up the right picture, but no one came up with the name, so... does either of you have anything at hand?

I knew it was an AN-14, I didn't know about the floor-polishing gear!
I'll stick this one up for the requisite 24 hours or so - I very much doubt it needs that long really...

Call it now as I'll be out shortly for a while... Noyade has it, The Fiat 7002, another whacky helicopter design recalled from my '60s Observers books (must have been hand-me-downs from elder brothers!).
Have you noticed , as we gradually exhaust the list of aeroplanes, how they're getting uglier and uglier??
I guess it's because they're weirder and weirder as well

Anything outside the x-files becomes identified in a flash, so you have a point there. Things get ugly and weird.
However, I am amazed how fast all the x-files stuff get names, too. It only takes a crop of upper tail section or half an engine nacelle for a positive id in a matter of hours.
The tricky ones are the mind blowers though.
Keep up the good work!

What amazes me is how much stuff has flown even experimentally which I've never come across before. Another large American helicopter from the 1940s which was tested by the US Mil popped up unannounced the other day (ugly describes it), and just looking for it again I chanced across several other prototype rotorcraft that were new to me.
I hope everybody can agree that we must confine us to machines that have actually flown?
Otherwise We will get lost in all Bamboo designs that never have flown.
Cropping the picture down to only the distinctive feature is totally acceptable to me.

I'm ok with seeing crops - would make it easier to find challenging images, just of better known types!
This is all I have at the moment....
