Luggage usually flown to Hamburg and never seen again

And some non-family friendly ones.

Having flown with Lufthansa I wouldn't admit to it if I did.

Beautiful VC-10. The world's most underrated civil aircraft. I was on the runway (well at the apron) when G-ARVF made the first proving flight to Ikeja. Anyone want a photo?

Yes, please. According to my Junior Jet Club Log Book, which I rediscovered a few days ago, I did not fly in G-ARVF. Though I did fly in six others, beautiful aircraft.

Between 8 and 12 years old myself and my brother flew many trans-Atlantic flights in Super VC 10s, and 707s and DC8s. The VC 10 is still my favourite airliner by far.

As for airlines in about 1984 I flew to Belgrade and Pula, Yugoslavia and back in 4 tired Jugoslave Air Tours DC 9s. Departure time over their was never more than an abstract concept vaguely related to "not before". The local name for the airline:

Joke About Time.

Photo no doubt taken by Ernie Loader, the BOAC staff photographer. Notice that it was indeed now BOAC without the dots, the revised cheatline etc., from the photo on #26.

That looks very much like Ken Cumberbatch from Guyana, standing there already wearing his green blazer, GA badge, and flannels. In which case, it wasn't his first day at work, because I remember him being attached to load control in T3.

By coincidence, Monday 11th September 1967 was my first day in flight operations, having escaped from load control on Saturday the 9th. (One day off between jobs - I must've been keen!)

Lovely photo! Was the BOAC/Cunard livery only on Trans-Atlantic flights, with some journeys arranged with one way flown, the other sailed on a Cunard liner?

'Twas indeed Ken, we had two guys from Guyana and two from Barbados.

I lied about the date, we started on Monday Sept 11th, the photo was taken on the Thursday or the Friday of that week.

The following week we were off to college (Ealing or Slough) for two terms, we didn't start our attachments until the following Easter. It's possible that the Caribbean guys had been around the company a little time before the rest of us but I don't think so.
