I actually typed the word 'patois' but I thought the French sound of that word would maybe give it away! I've been to Guernsey a few times (beautiful place, you're a lucky person kcockayne) and I have heard it said that the decline in Guernesiaise really intensified when a large number of young islanders were evacuated to the UK during WWII, and then came back speaking English as their first language. Here's another photo from Forest parish churchyard - within earshot of the airport - that you may find interesting. The deaths on the family headstone are marked in French until some point between 1917 and 1945, when English is used. I love this kind of stuff. Photo used with respect to the people whose names are carved there.

Sycamore has it and declared OH. One way in and one way out due terrain. Someone tried taking off the other way ages ago, with predictable results. They were going to build a new one but never did. I suspect funds were not forthcoming. Lovely area though if you like forests and lakes.
