Sweden it is Adapted from a 1930's American aircraft.

No, something altogether older...1930's aircraft which had a radial engine. In fact the original challenge aircraft also had a radial.

2 different radials were used, but neither was a Wright.
So, originally an American Eagle Eaglet 31?
No, the aircraft was (in my view) more well known.
Was it a Cessna BW?

I think it's the appropriately names Gotaverken GV-38 ?? Based on the Rearwin Sportster I think
