I can read a 25, and since it is, I think you should get a new pair of glasses
No. There's an elaborate pun in the background, but once you have solved it you automagically get the name of the airport/town.

The Notebook
And what's that?

Just concentrate on "asphalt" and "hard"

Spot on!
3W5 Concrete Muni, aka Mears Field.

You should take a moment to watch the video from which this picture has been taken... talk about close calls!!!

My Scariest Moment as a Pilot

The author says that weight, balances, p.a. and winds were all ok and he found a "pocket of air" at the end of the runway...

sabredog has requested Open House.

It looks flatter than I imagine Netheravon would be and its obviously very early, pre concrete, tarmac and proper buildings. Complete wildshot, could it be Cranwell and the A15 in the foreground?

Sorry, not Cranwell or the A15.

Not sure of the exact date but the source of the photo says it was taken around 1918. I have looked around the net and as far as I can establish this cannot be correct as one of the two units depicted was definitely NOT here at any time during that year. Without wishing to mislead my best guess would be that it was taken around 1923 or so.

Not Yatesbury. The aircraft in the picture would not be capable of flying from here to Netheravon.

I noticed the car at bottom of the photograph was driving on the right side of the road! The very neat layout of the encampment and lineup of aircraft was typical USAAS/AAC.

Not Langley, Con but I do not rule out a connection with both the units in the picture.

Smokeon you, probably innocently, used a relevant word.
