Drawbarz,

correct on both accounts. I had thought that a pre-WW2 japanese fighter with a non-radial engine would have lasted a little longer... well, I was wrong.

Over to You.

Pure chance that one. I was looking on a website for details of the Ki 27 the night before last and there was a mention and partial side view of the front end of the Ki 28.

I'm still not at home at the moment so nothing to post I'm afraid...

Open house

D.

Does Howard Hughes come in here somewhere?

I don't think there is a Howard Hughes connection to the design. The aircraft (project) was not designed in the United States of America.

This has a Russian feel to it. Would it be related to the Sukhoi SU-8 project?

An IMAM project perhaps?

If not an IMAM project a development of the Myasishchev DVB-102?

Not Russian, nor Italian. Although the specification for this design was for a fighter, the aircraft was designed to carry bombs internally. The front view shows 4 ports for cannon.

It looks like a Miles to me, but I don't think that it is

Not a Miles, but yes, the lines are similar. The engines were to be Rolls Royce Merlins.

German? Some sort of medium range bomber? Maybe others might distinguish the engines, pistons?

Not German. As previously mentioned, a source indicates the specification was for a fighter, but the design became a two-place, pressurized fighter/bomber. Perhaps that is why it never left the drawing board.

evansb's challenge

That will be the General Aircraft GAL.46 I believe, which I understand lost out to Westland who won the contract with the Welkin.

Next challenge

Thanks Bri. It would have been a very interesting aircraft had it been built. Another project that I was not aware of, that is the great thing about this thread and "What Cockpit" there is always something to learn.
Here is the next challenge.

Would that be the Westland Weasel, perchance?

Mel, I agree with you about there always being something to learn with this thread. There have been any number of aircraft that I had not heard of before.

Mel's Challenge

S'land has it. It is indeed the Westland Weasel. Not the name I would have given to an aircraft.

You have Control.

Thanks Mel.
I agree, not the best of names.

Here is the next one.
