I can't find a picture to confirm, but the undercarriage story sort of tallys with the Klemm KL 151...

John

Ok now I have found a picture of the Klemm and it isn't that...

Any thoughts on the engine....although it doesn't look unusual I have not managed to find an aircraft with a similar layout when viewed from the front. That would probably rule out the major engine manufacturers?

Okay, I'm awake. Sorry, it is not a Klemm. The motor on the first prototype was a Mathis.

Sorry, not a SIPA. The mystery aircraft was a three-seater, and first flew in 1948.

Would it be a Nord 1220 Norelan....? Meets the criteria, although the only picture I have found seems to be different at the front....but that may be a later engine?

Oui! skytrain10 is correct. The Nord 1220 series commenced with the 1221 prototype. Your control.

Merci Brian....the Mathis engine was the give away, but I would have struggled without the clue. I went straight past the Norelan in Avifrance as it said there was only 1 N1221 and 1 N1222 produced....!

Just finishing off some work at present but will have something for you all shortly.

Being slow, I re-counted how many Nord 122X were built, and the count is three

1220 was designed (as a retractable tricycle) but not built (count 0)
1221 was built but later converted to 1222 (count 1)
1222 see above (count still 1)
1223 was built (count 2)
1224 was built (count 3)

Good research RegDep....as I have said in the past whereas Aviafrance is a good source it is not complete...it makes no mention of the 1223 or 1224.

Its all gone very quiet, so time for a clue:

The aircraft was powered by a British engine, although the aircraft itself is not British.

Evening John...not the PZL-5, and not Polish. Right era though, although the challenge aircraft is a bit older being from the late 1920's.

Not sure what happened with your posts either..like you they all popped up at the same time!

Closing down for the night now....
