Hi Dave,
my best guess is that it is an exhaust/muffler combination, although when this one first flew, aircraft noise was not an issue.

Sorry, not from France.
The type enjoyed small production (about 3 dozens).

Knowing you, it has to be European though.

There are a lot of similarities with the Nihon (Itoh) N-58 Cygnet, and N-62 Eaglet, but it does not quite match....and I cannot see there were any other variants. Time to look at the books!

The other one it looks like is the Lockheed-Azcarte (LASA) 60, but again there are differences.

I'm wondering if this is from South America, perhaps an adaption of the PA-22?

Hi skytrain10,
Sorry no influence from Japan, Mexico or the Skunk Works. LM`s guess that it is from Europe is correct.
Designer and manufacturer are well known names in light aviation in ........

Ah, in that case something from Italy? The Partenavia P57 Fachiro possibly? I have a photo of a Fachiro III, and its not that, but I see that 36 Fachiro's were built prior to the III.

It is indeed the P-57 Fachiro. My guess is that 3-view depicts the prototype Fachiro I with a straight tail and 150hp Lycoming O-320 engine (LM, I never saw the exhaust on other examples of the P-57). The Fachiro II also had the straight tail, but a 180hp O-360 and only 2 were built. The true production model Fachiro II-f (33 built) was the II with a wept tail. And the Fachiro III became the P-64 Oscar.
WK

You are in control of the contest. I`m sure you do a better job than the referees (and their assistants) we saw to-day.

Thanks Walter-Karl. Good challenge...I have now found a photo of a Fachiro II (with a vertical tail), and thats very similar, although not identical, to your 3-view.

I must have been one of the few people here who didn't see the match...travelling at the time. From what I can gather we needed more than the referees help!

I'll wish Holland well for tomorrow....

Anyway, back to the matter at hand, here's a rather snazzy one to consider:

Pretty close mate, just waiting for coffee break to start; 'tiz over now though!

New challenge looks very interesting; there glimpses of daylight where you wouldn't expect it and some things look a little asymmetric! Hmm, Oh well back to work dammit!

TC,

I tend to agree with you. If it helps, here's the same pic again, and all I have done this time is airbrush some tell-tale markings.
