Time for another clue, methinks...
This aircraft design appeared in the first third of the last century. It was developed from an even earlier design (that was named after a Roman god and an insect) when that company was purchased by the man whose name became part of the generic name of the aircraft in these cockpit pictures.

Congrats, Sycamore! You have control....
It is indeed the Davis D-1-W shown here at Rhinbeck (I think.)
The Roman god and insect clue was probably too obscure, but it refers to the Vulcan Moth, a design from the Vulcan aircraft company, which Davis bought. Apparently, Davis modified the Vulcan Moth (I believe he added the elegant elliptical wing trailing edges, etc) and called it the Davis Monoplane.
From what I could uncover online, although the total production was only sixty aircraft, there were several variants. Eleven of those were D-1-Ks and, later, eight of those D-1-Ks were further modified to become D-1-Ws. I do not know, but I suspect, that the main difference was the engines installed.

Thanks, the pic I have seems to show it somewhat different, with cowled engine. As you say ,nice for pottering about on a sunny day.
Anyway,OPEN HOUSE....

East European /Russian ?
I think you are right, Sycamore. There's THAT clock again - a slightly different version than the one I have, but very distinctive.
The overall finish looks too nice to be Russian, so I think Eastern Europe, but I haven't found the particular type.
NazgulAir, are you still there? We need some clues. I assume it is not from Mordor.

The Meta-Sokol has a few interesting peculiarities. It's not a nosewheel aircraft, but it's not exactly a tailwheel aircraft either. The third wheel is a "fuselage wheel".
It's got a small engine, but it also has a booster that gives it some extra oomph when you need it.

Ahhh.... I posted the Meta-Sokol back in June 2008.
I admit I didn't recognise it again until I saw that photo with the odd tail/fuselage wheel.
Still, we should all check the list of previous "What Cockpits" before posting.
Cheers,
Glenn

Well done, Sycamore!
Don't you just love the casual disregard for drag and forward vision with that radiator and Model A engine out front?
Open house, the man said.
Who's next?

That one and the earlier Davis one were the only ones I could find; nice for pottering around, but I think I`d prefer the Davis...
How about this?
