Excellent to hear that it will fly again, still remember seeing one display at Leuchars some time ago, BUT....
I do feel that it might overshadow the Falklands celebrations just a tad. Harriers of both sorts would have been nice, Chinooks, Seakings of all varieties, Lynx, Gazelle etc. The problem is that if you fly a Vulcan over the top of the public they will probably walk away with the impression that Vulcans won the war and completely forget about those irritating little quiet buzzy aircraft.

Tourist,
Why does someone always have to be negative? Is it a British affliction that as soon as good news is announced, someone has to look on the dark side? I despair at times. To quote the Iron Lady - "Rejoice!"

Actually, you have to wonder whether XH558 will be in the Falklands celebration or if there will even be a flypast at all. Nobody has explained who would be paying for the fuel, so one assumes that the idea might eventually come to nothing. On a wider point, the flypast itself sounds a bit suspect, as there really aren't many Falklands "veterans" to take part. Okay, there are VC10's, Nimrods and Hercules, but they're all very busy, so it's unlikely that more than one example of each could take part. What else? Chinooks? Sea Kings? They're even busier. All sounds very questionable don't you think?

Not disputing that the Vulcan should rightly be part of any Falklands 25 celebrations, but other than Black Buck and the sterling contribution of the one Chinook wasn't the vast majority of in-theatre flying done in Naval/Royal Marine aircraft?
IIRC, Shar FRS Mk1s, Sea King HAS Mk2s, Wasp HAS Mk1s, Lynx HAS Mk3s, Sea King HC Mk4s, Wessex HAS Mk 3s, Royal Marine Gazelles and Scouts.

TOG,
You should add Victor and the Harrier GR3 to your list and several more I expect. Corporate was a great purple operation made up on the fly. The RAF did a tremendous job given the distances involved. I believe one or more of the Sea Harrier two seaters in still in use at the standards flight at Yeovilton. An ideal candidate for a Falklands flypast and Navy owned AFAIK.

You'll never believe this however,
I popped out this morning, walked across the pan & was run over by a Red Arrow who couldn't see through both pairs of Ray bans he had on.
Now, I could have put up with that however, as I was lying on the ground trying to straighten my legs, somebody started up the Tonka just 3 feet away from me and I've since lost hearing in both ears.
Had I not been deaf, I may well have heard the liney who was trying to warn me about the hydraulics leak that pored into my eyes as I stumbled about.
I lie here, typing on a brail keyboard, drinking through a straw whilst trying not to make any noises which may further damage my voice chords which, were wrecked by my screams of pain...
'Three Blind Mice' anyone?

So....here we go. A Vulcan To The Sky. What a great day at Bruntingthorpe today. It takes the aircraft to 1st flight + a few more if all the pledges come in, which I think they will.
Our best wishes (of course) go to F irwin who resigned from VTTS.
Heres to Summer 2007.........and the Return of the Vulcan..... ROSE TINTED VULCAN GLASSES on and happy!
What a flypast 17th June 2007 will be, with a lead aircraft XH558.

I wonder if this was a pre-requirement of that £500k donation......
With any luck there might just be a few sheckles left over to give her a new and proper Cold War coat of paint as per the supposed HLF requirement.......
Anti-flash white would be a good canvas for some discreet but non the less visible corporate sponsor logos.....as per the ThunderCity Lightnings....which I suspect will still be neccessary to keep her in the air long term once she gets that first air under the delta......
Ahh - the days when the RAF still had a strategic bombing capability.
Even if some of it was provided by 44(Z)!
Excellent day today at Bruntingthorpe even though I chickened out of flying there (thanks to the pessimistic weather-guessers) and drove there instead.
Most impressive of all is the absolute dedication to their work of the VOC engineering team - all of whom could earn much more elsewhere. Getting 558 back to the sky is far more than just a job to them - it's a vocation.
Hopefully, ignorant digi-yoof will soon know a lot more about the Cold War and the Vulcan's part in it. It makes you want to throttle the little buggers, but when the Lanc flew over today I heard one Vicki Pollard lookalike ask her minders "What did they use that for?"
Sir Mike Knight made it clear that Felicty had said that her job was done when the roll-out was achieved. So it was - and for that you deserve our thanks.

There's a sad sort of clanging
From the clock in the hall
And the bells in the steeple too,
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird
Is popping out to say "Cuckoo, cuckoo".
Regretfully they tell us,
But firmly they compel us
To say goodbye to you.
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good night,
I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu,
Adieu, adieu, to you and you and you.
So long, farewell, au r'voir, auf wiedersehen,
I'd like to stay and taste my first champagne
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye,
I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye,
Good bye
I'm glad to go,
I cannot tell a lie.
I flit, I float,
I fleetly flee, I fly.
The sun has gone to bed and so must I
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye!

To all of the moaners and knockers of the whole scheme its now time to put your hand in your pockets get out a handkerchief and tie it round your mouth, at the same time put your other hand in your breast pocket get out your wallet and make a donation. To those such as Tim ,Beagle ,Vulcan 903 and the others who have made this tread a source of information and reasoned debate I say thank you. Yes mistakes have been made information has been poor but I am sure lessons have been learnt. I WAS at Bruntingthorpe and felt proud that the donations and purchases I have made over the years made a difference and eventually the grand old Lady WILL fly. I felt proud to have served in the RAF and I felt proud to be British.

Vulcan bomber set to soar once more
